Finally shut down, but not by Dave Bowman.

Hal was good but anyone who tells me that 2001 was the best sci-fi film of all time will have to step outside.

Increase to the next letter for each character and you get HAL = IBM

For the youngsters IBM was the biggest computer company at the time.

Thank you for that. A long awaited "WOW! I never knew that!" moment.

I think once you have watched that film all the way through, that voice always stays with you. It's just one of those great movies. Although the ending winds people up but I liked it.

R.I.P..

Come on Hrolf, everybody agrees that the best sci-fi movie of all time was 'Battlefield Earth'.....Hell, I could watch that on a loop.

In seriousness though Blade Runner surely?

Behave. Another hugely overrated derivative movie.
I preferred the new one.

Of course, Sci fi covers a lot of possibilities both cerebral and daft but for pure enjoyment, you can't beat Alien and Aliens.
The Thing is very good fun and I have always had a soft spot for The Time Machine. 12 Monkeys, The Terminator, Minority Report, Fahrenheit 451, AI, Contact, Arrival, The Fly, Planet Of The Apes, Total Recall, Starship Troopers, all good stuff and better than Blade Runner for me.
Bladerunner did have good visuals largely due to the perfectionism of Ridley Scott.

I bought the new one....haven't seen it yet.

From time to time I give it a sideways glance to its position on the bookshelf.....with the micro anxiety of knowing that if I unwrap it I'm probably going to disappoint myself.

First world problems eh.

It's a required taste.

I mostly agree:

12 Monkeys was a bit pretentious....Mind you Arrival took that to a new art form, spending most of its time staring up its own arse......AI was a bit sad....good movie....but tears aren't my style.....The Planet of the Apes...which one...I remember wanting to shag the chimp Helena Bonham Carter played....is that wrong? I think it's wrong...but hell.....I wonder how an actor playing a chimp orgasms....No this is definitely wrong.

Haven't seen Contact and Fahrenheit 451.

All the rest are classics.

You have to ask? The remake was an abomination.

I agree that Arrival was a little 'arty'. Surely Bladerunner was a little pretentious too.

12 Monkey's had the great and strangely moving pay off ending.
