Great News.

Scotland............

They have right now (and since James signed for us more or less) two Premier League players in their side - maybe a couple more, but I cannot think of them - McArthur and Robert Snodgrass

In my mind, that must make these two the best players in the Scotland squad, yet McArthur rarely started for Scotland.

The fact that for Palace he is an unsung hero, does the simple things so well, shuts the opposition down - an out and out team player - someone who rarely plays a pass to the opposition, can deal with tight situations etc - gives his all every game to the clear point of exhaustion for us and yet he hardly ever started for Scotland.

McArthur's qualities are exactly what Scotland need - yet he never really got a look in, even though it has been shown that he can play anywhere across the middle to a very good effect and that the way Scotland set up (i.e. not to lose) that he should have been the first name on the sheet if not the 2nd or 3rd. Scott Brown - Celtic Captain - a good player against Ross County, Livingstone etc, or James McArthur - a good player against Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City etc etc.

Good news for us for sure - Scotland? - they really do have no idea.

Amazing that he wasn’t a bigger player for Scotland. Almost as mind boggling as Freedman only getting two caps.

Bannan seems preferred to McArthur these days which seems odd considering Bannan plays in the championship. That said, Bannan is pretty decent too.

You can't help thinking that the SFA is more interested in getting laughs than qualifying for the Euros.

Azeri eagle, they've got Robertson, Cairney, Ryan Frazer, Matt Richie McTominay, Ryan Gauld - all good players but that doesn't excuse overlooking Macca. I think he would find it harder and harder to get a look in with the quality they've got coming in now, so it makes sense. In years gone by he should definitely have been part of the spine of the team though.

But half of those players apparently are injured during internationals.
Macca wouldve walked to hampden for a game.

Should of played far more than he did... Sadly he was kept out by Scotland golden boy Scott Brown..

Just depends if he suits their style of play, which seems not to be the way.

Freedman on the other hand should have been a scottish legend.

Agree 100% about McArthur. We’ve had alot of mediocrity in that midfield over the last decade and it’s amazing that he hasn’t had more of a chance, especially given he’s able to play as an attacking or defensive player. I thought he’d get more of a chance with Scott Brown retiring but sadly not. Great news for Palace but think Scotland have missed an opportunity.

Can’t comment on Freedman as didn’t follow English football much in his day. But that must have been around late 90s which was the point we really started going downhill and became quite ‘flexible’ with our squad selection.
