Our 'famous five'

We all have our fav players, and a few class acts have gone through the revolving door, but to qualify for the famous five you have to be top class and be 'proper palace' so Gerry Francis and Lombardo don't qualify - not here long enough and not really associated with us enough ... so my indisputable quintet are: Wilf You may discuss this but you should realise that what I have stated here I regard as fact rather than opinion.

Can't argue with that list. Maybe a place on the bench for Jimmy Cannon? Might not have been as classy but but proper Palace to the bone.

Is Ian Wright 'proper palace,'? Always stayed he was an Arsenal fan and played the majority of his best games away from the club. I would not dismiss players like Joel Ward here either, instrumental in us getting promoted and staying up on many occasions. Nigel Martyn and maybe even Speroni?.Both key at different times and even the Doug, we would be in a worse place had he not popped up at key moments.

Hmmm interesting one this, it did make me think, some of my favourite and our best players don’t really qualify imho, much as I love the likes of Wrighty, King Kenny, Sir Billy of Gilbert, they left and had careers at other clubs and maybe?? don’t look back with the love other ex-players seem to have for us. if ‘proper palace’ means length of service and/or pure love of the club and maybe being connected with the club even after their playing days, then I’ll go for….. Jim Cannon

Samson was probably the best English player to don the shirt. But if I had to name one player who represents Crystal Palace for me it's Jim Cannon. Mark Bright is up there in the modern day.....That's a good guy to have on your team as either a player or management structure. Freedman is an interesting guy.....Has always done well at Palace and rightly has the plaudits. It would be interesting to know why it went so wrong elsewhere....Bolton for example.
