I always believed that what people do in the privacy of their own bedrooms (so long as they are not hurting anybody) is nobody's business but their own. With the provision that its adults operating in an absence of trafficking, pimps, drugs or other exploitation.

How long will these new rules stay on the books ?

For These working girls certainly , it is their own business.

What the cost ? What the f..ck ?

Current debate here is on decriminalising sex workers. I suspect there are still plenty of conservatives here, who will not remain silent forever.
Current government (in fact all Irish politics) are simply popularist.
Their tactic is to leak stuff in media/ social media in particular, gauge the reaction and then say it was their idea all along to do this - or not, depending on the reaction.

I think you are describing all governments, the world over, there. It's not about doing the right thing, it's about doing what makes them look good.
