I know it hasn’t worked for us in the past, but as one of our strengths seems to lie with our centre halves then why not try this formation utilising Schlupp (or PVA) and Townsend as wing backs

Guaita

Townsend, Tomkins, Cahill, Kelly, Schlupp (or PVA)

McArthur, Milivojevic, Kouyate, Zaha

Ayew

Would the additional centre half cover the defensive weaknesses of Townsend and Schlupp? I don’t profess to know whether this would work with our personnel but on the basis we look devoid of different ideas when under the cosh, putting it out there as a plan B. Thoughts anyone?

I see your thoughts and especially as none of our centre backs are particularly quick but our defence isn't too bad, so why put an extra player at the back and allow pressure?

Also the right side would be too slow for this to work

Ward - Too slow/ poor crosses
Townsend - less defensive and the counter will slow down when he cuts inside to cross

Thank goodness Roy is the manager.

Guaita

Ward, Cahill, Sakho, PVA

Milivojevic, Kouyate

Townsend, Camarasa or Meyer, Zaha

Ayew

This for me has always been our best formation. Roy would be happy as there are two holding midfielders and we’d have a little bit of flair going forward….just saying…

That’s fine, but is that any different to the shape we already play, just a change of personnel. I agree about two holding midfielders but we do need a plan B and I never see a change of shape out on the pitch regardless of the score.

I think this allows us to get some creativity into the middle of the pitch instead of playing Meyer on the left wing as Roy did in the early games.

I'm not sure that you're really suited to a football fans' discussion forum and perhaps you should look for a cheerleaders' forum as you don't seem to be able to accept any criticism of any aspect of this football club

Milivojevic, Kouyate - holding midfielders ??

Both can break up play but neither can hold the ball for more than a second.

Meyer and Camarassa are the only two who can do this but won't be given much chance when the manager concentrates on not conceding many goals - although that plan went wrong against Spurs. If Brighton can beat Spurs on Saturday it will say much about our defensive tactics.

Who the hell are you to decide who is or is not suited to discuss Crystal Palace on this forum. For me to accept criticism of our club it has to be fair and constructive and not the whinging and moaning that is more prevalent on this forum than anything.
