Sturridge should be taken-not as injured as tought

Proven goalscoring quality, had a problem in Turkey while playing for Trabzonspor regarding some betting and was suspended, immediately decided to quit the team cause he didn't want to cash in a salary for nothing. That's some nice spirit there. Trabzonspor are close to winning the league or at least to coming second, Sorloth is now main scorer there.

Sturridge is one of the best English scorers of the decade. He isn't in any other ocassion going to be FREE again.Sure, his salary is pretty big, but compare the cost to bringing in some 40 million good scorer like Batshuayi or Edouard (even with possible re-sale value).

The big problem he had in the last year at Liverpool were supposedly the many injuries, with even Klopp saying he needs to differentiate between big pain and bearable pain and needs to stay fit.

But how many were those injuries actually?

Let's look at the list: [Link]

We can see his injuries were never cruciate ligaments (that make you miss years)and he only missed days (at most 50). He only had a big hip injury back in 2014 and it didn't really bother him again, as he only missed 30 days due to hip in the next 6 years. Being ill is not a real injury, it can happen to anyone.

So that leaves the following minor injuries: hamstring (which kept him out in 2017 and 2018 for more than 100 days- that is the injury not titled in the link, they just used "Unknown injury", but it was a hamstring issue), but which has not reappeared since, 4 days of achilles tendon problem (4 days is basically nothing), 27 days of thigh muscle rupture, 5 days of calf muscle strain, 18 days of a knock.

All of these last ones were in the 2019/20 season for a total of 78 days in which he was unavailable. Honestly, half the players in the PL have been unavailable for longer.

And in the 2018/19 seasons, before this one, he was available the entire season, with no injuries.

Yes, the fact that he injured himself while at Liverpool in just a few minutes after coming on in that February 2018 hamstring injury looked bad, but it was more a press thing. A player can injure himself 3 minutes or 60 minutes after a match started, it's not really his fault.

[Link]

Now let's look at what he can bring to the club that strikers like Ayew or Benteke can't.

These are his stats: [Link]

Notice that he nearly scores or assists for about every 100 minutes he is on the pitch. And not just in the same team with Sterling, Luis Suarez and Coutinho (which the 4 of them totally made great that season). Which of the other 3 from this list can come free today?!

It's an opportunity to get Sturridge, it shouldn't be passed even though he'd probably ask for a big salary. But hey...if Trabzonspor could afford to pay him....

Sure, some other PL clubs might want him too, he has a big name, but I don't know if anyone has this big center forward problems like Palace and which out of the other 17 clubs remaining in the league with take him just as a backup for their starting center forward. So it would actually be very realistic.

I dare to say that I believe he would hardly get injured again in the next season. His big hamstring problems have passed for 3 years now and he only picked up minor injuries in one of the last 2 years. He has this name of an injury-prone player, but it's only half-true.

I watched the Liverpool cup game vs Wolves last year, he was absolutely terrible. If you think Benteke doesnt put in a shift he was 10 times worse.

I get the feeling he is arrogant, and felt being put out in the "reserves" as beneath him. Same probably goes for his stint at West Brom.

He needs to realise his career at a top club is over.

When he played for England he was so greedy. Always decided shoot no matter the situation. Strikers can be greedy but he took the p.

He most definately isn't the answer even short term.
