Having watched a few pre season games,the amount of professional fouls seems to increase every season,and the lack of appropriate punishment seems very week,nine times out of ten the player takes out the opposition and they would have been either making a move for goal,or passing a player to set someone up,a yellow card is not strong enough,it should be a sin bin for 10 mins as in rugby,to many games and flow are being deliberately fouled,it needs a stronger punishment,to make the players think again ,is it worth being off the pitch for 10 minutes ?

Just getting a yellow card out would help. It stands to reason that if a ref just gives one free kick after another , the offenders will continue to offend . Most free kicks are actually working in the offenders favour ,that’s why so many fouls get committed.
Half the trouble is that , the emphasis has centred more and more on entertainment , and sending people off is almost frowned on. Maybe two yellows should be a ten minute punishment and not a total dismissal . Awarding free kicks is nothing more than a very light tap on the wrist. Ayew. against Lyon ,was a prime example they humped him all afternoon ,free kicks awarded ,no card until he might already be crippled.

Some teams make fouls as soon as they lose possession so they can re set after their players have got out of position joining the attack .Liverpool are experts at it .
It does effect counter attacking sides more than others as obviously the counter is stopped and without the ability to break down the reset defence in front of them the goal threat for the whole game is minimal .
Look at the games that we had no shots in the past ,fouls against will also be a high stat .

Its about educating refs really , they have to see that a pull back deep in the oppositions half can be as critical to the outcome of the game as a foul 20 yards from goal . If they are going to book players for kicking the ball away its a booking every time for fouling players on the break . If they know that may lead to a red if they persist they will stop doing it .

I like the sin bin idea , it helps the team that is being fouled against rather than (in the case of reds) helping out the team they are playing next week

And we still need a striker
