Working from home the pros and cons

so many people working from home, I see so many disadvantages of being out of the office, My gas bill is going through the roof for one I am sure there are some pros for some but not all.

No commute or travel is handy. The worst bit is that work life balance that before Covid we were told was a big deal. No life now and home is work.

I have neighbours who have enjoyed the experience: Take the laptop out into the garden (summer) watch the kids or dog play whilst they work. Have a nice lie in as no early morning commute, no need to shave or put on make up and wear lounge wear etc. I also have a friend who lives in a 5th floor studio flat maybe not such a great experience as you are trapped and your work space is also your living space. Yes, I find that it has taken some mental adjustment to detach from the idea of 'going to work'. Not as though that's always the most exciting thing to do, but blurring the lines of home and work when it's all bundled into one can make it hard to unwind.

I hate it. I never thought I would say this but I even miss the commute. I now realise that allowed me the head space to prepare to start work in the morning and wind down on the way home. I miss actually seeing my team and those spontaneous chats with those around you. Miss a cheeky pint or two on the way home and just being around people. My work life balance is shot to pieces with people thinking its OK to have a meeting early/late as no one is commuting. At one point we had three adults all WAH and even in a decent sized house it was a pain. I see very few advantages for me and my mental health has suffered.

Suddenly her routine has been disturbed and she is having to make 3 meals a day for an extra 3 people. She has a large house and garden but feels guilty that she is a bit fed up cleaning up after husband and kids when others are really struggling.

It's great for us - one of our bedrooms was converted to a fitted office a couple of years back, so working from home has been beneficial, for her. Not only does she have dedicated office space, but she also has technical support (me), a tea boy (me) and lively social life while around the fridge (me) at lunch time. Best of all though, is a room for de-stressing. All the while saving £85 commuting costs, £100 Costa coffee costs and a gain of 60 hours each month. Sadly it's all coming to an end next Friday. She's retiring! We can then de-stress all day long.
