I have maybe missed it and if I have, apologies.

A wonderful win for the Eagles but, for me, the pass of the day was Luka's cross-field ball to Olise that started the move for the third goal.

That was an extraordinary piece of skill; not only did he switch play to an unpopulated LH side but did so with pin-point accuracy over 45yds.

Made me purr with pleasure.

I agree; didn't know he had that in the locker.

I also thought he looked noticeably fitter when he came on and is well suited to the new system. Wouldn't surprise me to find he is the only change to the starting line up at Liverpool.

As an aside, Olise was only on the pitch a few minutes but he also looked entirely at home. I also thought the defensive unit - especially the new centre backs - looked really good and composed.

That third goal pointed to the progressive way that I believe Vieira is trying to get us to play.
Interestingly the three subs were heavily involved and I doubt the players replaced would have achieved the same objective.
Kouyate would not have been capable of Luka’s crossfield pass, Ayew wouldn’t have been pinned to the touchline to receive the pass or then play it early to Gallagher who made the cross and Benteke would not have the composure in front of goal to finish that chance.
This is not a criticism of those players replaced who all played their part yesterday and are more physical than the three players replaced.
However, I do see it as a conundrum for Vieira moving forward .
We need the physicality provided by Kouyate and Benteke to compete in games but also need the skill of their replacements to open up teams.
At least we have the options which has to be positive.

Good post Patrick. I am encouraged by these options. I hope other fans will let PV make the choices depending on how he sees the opponents. I am expecting there to be games when Benteke will start and Edouard comes off the bench and vice versa, likewise with Ayew and Olise.

Also we still have to see Hughes and what he will bring to the party and it could well be a party this year if we can continue to develop the system and play as we have in the last one and a half games. And when Eze returns even more options!

Finally, whilst the Luka pass was excellent I was taken aback by Andersen's pin-point 60 yarder to Wilf who was being marked by (Royal I think) but who was still able to kill the ball, turn his man and run to the by-line and provide the cross that saw Gallagher's two attempts blocked then deflected for a corner just before half-time. He provided several long range balls that turned defence into attack.

Yes, that didn't go unnoticed. Andersen loves that sweeping diagonal passes and the one to which you refer was not only a beauty but was compounded by Wilf's sublime skill and his roasting of the full back - a repeated feature throughout the game.

Absolutely. Feel like I've been on my own recently defending his ability, while everyone else has been slating him as someone that can't pass.

Yesterday was just one example. He's goat a fantastic range of passing and eye for a gap.

Hopefully we get to see more of it.

In our top 3 players when on form.

Luka has always had this in his Arsenal, the previous year or so he has been off his game, and its not often he has the option on for doing so anyway. Lets not put Kouyate down too much, he had his best game in a long time yesterday.

I totally agree with you, but didn't he switch play to the RIGHT hand side? Or maybe left is the new right

No you haven't been. I posted on a thread that the system RH payed Limited how luka could play. He's a driver in midfield and with no where to drive under RH he was stifled. Wouldn't be surprised to see his form pick up in this system.

Roy did a fantastic job but our players were suffocating under that regime. Exciting to see them express themselves again.
