I thought they might give him a chance to turn it around for the May local elections but clearly, there is now a concerted effort to get rid of him within a matter of a couple of weeks.

If this story is true then there are ZERO excuses for it and the hubris behind even the notion of trying to get away with it is beyond any kind of rational comprehension.

Throw in the fact that Gove was all over the television yesterday and is now leading this charge on the cladding issue, tells me that he is the one behind it all and that a decision has been taken that Johnson's time is up.

Presumably, these people were all working together anyway and the afternoon/ evening shift took their own drinks out into the garden? In view of this, I can't get too excited about a potential 'non-event'. The Tories (not just Peppa Pig) may tumble in May because of their failure to deliver post Brexit as well as all the ongoing seediness that's associated with them.

I can't really see Johnson being removed as leader before the next election....You would need a scandal on a much bigger scale.

Yeah but you probably thought that those rules and sacrifices were justified in the first place, whereas when it comes to losing a close relative I would have had it as personal choice with disclaimer warning and what safety procedures could be implemented. This isn't the black death and I think the balance has been wrong since the start.

The reality is that most of the public are tired of covid restrictions now so this just won't have the same impact than it might have had a year ago. It has much more traction with activists and the political than it will with the public....most of whom know that politicians are hypocrites anyway.

While there is considerable disquiet within the Tory party over Johnson...pretty much from the start he has always been an election winner. So essentially the Tories have their own Blair, where most of the party's grass roots aren't happy but the MPs like their jobs.

However, while the Tory Mps hold their nose less easily than Labour did with Blair I can't see them giving up their meal ticket without a considerable scandal.

He would be much more likely to go in the year after an election.
