He was one of those impressionists who did a lot of people but imo wasn’t that great at any of them, very overrated, but RIP, he was a big star back in the day

Made in Bromley

Very sad news.
He was a much loved performer and his impressions brought joy to millions.
He will be remembered with great affection.
God rest his soul in peace. RIP.

Ted Heath didn't realise he heaved his shoulders until he saw Mike Yarwood's impression of him - then he did it all the time.

Harold Wilson singing 'Don't cry for me Argentina' Dennis Healey - - 'silly billies' loads more.

The powerful would never mind being sent up by Mike it was all fun nothing more.

Never been replaced really.

RIP Mike

Looking back you realise he was a fairly average performer, but in the days when millions watched television on a Saturday night he was spectacularly successful.

He certainly made me chuckle anyway.

RIP.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Very much of his time.

Looking back at old clips, he wasn't in the same league as - for example - Steve Coogan.

But back in the day he was very successful and opened the door for other impressionists.

I loved his sketch of Brian Clough and Don (The Don mafia style) Revie.

I always thought he was good family entertainment. Sadly he suffered with stage fright and was away from showbiz for years. He made a come back I think at the Royal Variety show? Anyway he was literally shaking with fear even though the audience willed him to succeed.

RIP

Are we sure it's him, or someone pretending to be him?

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

I thought his shows quite boring, at least that was the impression I got.
TBH , because his stage fright finished his career, many thought he'd died yonks ago.

.

its the reason that Sport is more entertaining than 'light-entertainment'. Often the latter has mediocre talents that rise to the top due to a decision of an invisible fella in a suit. In a BBC office somewhere.

its not what you know. Its 'who' you know. Terry Wogan stated he thought Jimmy Savile to be totally talentless with a microphone....and i tend to agree.

There may have been better Impressionists than Yarwood. Who knows ? i reckon Paul Daniels was not just a brilliant magician, but also a brilliant entertainer. He was the exception to the rule.
