In the absence of McArthur and/or a Gallagher type player I’m not sure we have the players to play a successful version of 4-3-3.

Shows how good he is and it's a pity that he doesn't have a player of similar calibre alongside him, then we could get to grips with contesting the midfield and supplying the wing and front line. 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 seems reasonable given the circumstances.
