I work for the Corporation of London and every December we have a christmas lunch in the Guildhall with the Lord Mayor, its all good fun.
This year they have decided that they are going to call it STAFF LUNCH instead of CHRISTMAS LUNCH because they feel that it is less offensive to other cultures. They used to have a Christmas hat competition (sad I know) but feel that this to is offensive. Well I would just like to say thank you to the powers that be for killing of my culture and making me a second rate citizan in the place of my birth.

What a huge overreaction.

Do you celebrate the birth of Jesus ? Sing Carols ? I doubt it.

It's a staff do, just think yourself lucky you get a do of any kind.

what a load of bollox...

I respect the fact other people have religious beliefs etc etc but why does it offend them for us to mention Christmas... or anything to do with Christianity.

Maybe I should be offended when I see turbans.

I attend churh every Sunday, I have been Christianed, confirmed and have communion And also enjoy midnight mass its my belief which is why the above title states Angry English Christian. I was not allowed to have a small St georges flag on my monitor or wear a England football T-Shirt with a St georges cross on the back when there were poeple walking about in other nations colours. Maybe it was an overreaction on hindsight but it seems that whenever we want to celebrate our heritage, its deemed as wrong?

My God! What a load of rubbish we have to put up with nowadays. This is another example of Political Correctness gone too far. I was brought up in the belief that the more religious a person was the more likely they were to be tollerant to others, but this is obviously wrong as it appears the more religious someone is the less tollerant they are.

I don't understand how someone can be offended by anothers religion and their ways of celebrating. Surely we all have the freedom to choose and we should respect each others choice and not expect them to alter their customs because we believe in something different.

Personally I am not religious, probably why I don't understand how someone can be offended, but I have never found someones faith offensive . In fact I find it quite interesting with the different customs. I recently attended a Jewish funeral, at a friends request, and was required to ware a kippot. Was I offended? was i bollo*ks!

If you are being prevented from displaying national allegaince, when others can do so, you are being discrimanted against. As you obviously work for a warm and fuzzy organisation, you will no doubt have an avenue of complaint. Persue it.

And therein lies the another truth about political correctness - double standards.

Why is it that we, as the ethnic majority, have to show tolerance to everybody else, and yet we cannot expect any kind of reciprocation??

Great Britain is a CHRISTIAN country - not multi-faith, CHRISTIAN. The head of the nation - Liz, not Tony - is also head of the Anglican Church (Christian), so nuff said.

I am not preaching non-tolerance here - if people are Hindu, Jewish, Sikh, Bhuddist, Islam, or even Satanist then fine by me that's their choice, but repect the religion of the country in which you reside.
