FA Cup quarter final: Sunderland 0 Palace 1 (Whittle). Absolutely freezing day, with travel chaos. But great memories.
Unfortunately the cup run messed up the league form and we missed out on promotion.

Yep went to Roker Park as a 13 yr old with my step-Dad and future Brother-in-law.It was the coldest I'd ever been and the furthest away game I'd been to and still is! IIRC was the train delayed? "Five-foot-two,eyes of blue,Alan Whittle's after you...."Also done Leeds (got chased through town and ran into paper-shop past the counter and out the back ) and Liverpool (Step-Dad and co. had punch-up in a sports shop after being chased through town!). There was a lot of aggro in those days, great cup run tho'. Ollie's Dad,Ash

Went to every single game in that cup run.......if I remember right sunderland had not been beaten at home for a year I think. Train broke down on the way up did not get there til way into the game.
British Rail as they still known as then offered any one going to the next away game travel for a pound I think,..It was Mansfield town they did,nt know what hit them we totally took over the ground.
Remember the players quite often came back on the old specials and we would all have a chat and a drink...good old days apart from the aggro at most games.

Went to Chelsea for the Valentines fixture in the 5th round. The draw was away to the winners of Stoke or Sunderland. Didn't manage the 6th round away day but did go to the semi - massive disappointment being so close to a Wembley final ...

What songs were the palace fans singing at this time lads? And did you chant Eagles by then because we had only been nicknamed that for 3 years. I could ask my 55yr old dad this when i go to his in croydon on sat for the game but just interested to hear from other 'older' palace fans too, sorry about the older bit

It does sound rather comical now you mention it! Also after the Liverpool game we were attacked with bottles and bricks by both sets of Scousers,Liverpool n Everton! I think we had 6 specials up there. Ollie's Dad,Ash.

I am pleased to say I was there and can confirm that it was an absolute ball freezer of a day. Well worth the long round trip though. Somewhat scary coming out but we got away unscathed, helped by putting on a long face and not wearing any "colours".

Missing out on promotion was a real anti-climax as was that defeat to Southampton in the semi-final.
