Virus lurking on Hol ?

I've had a few dodgy experiences using the Hol lately and it is my conclusion that there are some nasty/niggly little viruses planted on here.

I use a PC and switch between Chrome and IE8 for my browsing (virgin 200meg broadband) and pay for AVG security... when I'm not doing my banking and investments admin I mostly visit the Hol (80%) and Youtube (20%).

Lately when using the Hol (through Chrome) I've experienced the screen doing weird things like locking up and "bouncing up and down ", so yesterday I tried IE8 to see if it was any better.

It was initially but then the screen locked and a line of warning text appeared together with a verbal warning through my speakers telling me not to turn my computer off but ring a number on my phone for assistance!

Fcuk that for a game of soldiers I thought.... I'll turn it off and see what happens.

It took a few moments to reboot and the AVG security was compromised temporarily but fixed itself quickly and I ran a scan. No threat was present.

My conclusion is that this wasn't a sophisticated cyber attack but a reasonably clever phishing scam to get punters to phone up akin to the Indian phone scammers who tell you there is an error on your computer.

Anyone else experienced what I have on here?

If it does happen... the phone is not your friend, turn off your computer and reboot.

I never have any computer malfunctions on that site!

More likely to be something already lurking in your registry that is diverting your browser.

I assume you have all the necessary anti virus, root kit software in place.

I hope so Hrolf.... I pay enough for it!

I am being bombarded with phishing style emails that I block, but every day a new one arrives in a different guise.

I regularly run scans and always check the software is fully functioning before browsing.

My system seems to be ok today thank the Lord!

As well as your AVG, get yourself Malwarebytes, Spybot and CrapCleaner (all have good free versions available)
recommended to me by staffie and get rid of just about everything than can lurk on the average PC

Your paid?

Try AVG free version next time. It works OK for me. And Legal makes a good call with Malwarebytes. You could also run UnHackMe

The AVG version I have was on there when I bought the system and I renewed it for £25 (for 2 years) out of laziness/ignorance.

I'll get my tech savvy nephew to carry out all the suggested improvements that you have all kindly made and I appreciate.

Thank you.

malwarebytes
adwcleaner
CCleaner
Microsoft Security Essntials/Defender
Avast
Avira
Trend Micro -Hijack this
360 Total Security

All free versions do as good as you want them to do and are capable of preventing what you stumbled upon. (the voice and jumpiness sounds like a browser plugin was installed)
