Shadow Welsh Secretary quits over whip used to back Article 50 bill.

Not a specifically anti-Corbyn, or pro or anti Article 50 thread, but I said this when Corbyn became leader: how can he realistically expect to impose a three line whip on his own MPs, given his proud record of ignoring such whips from other leaders in his time on the back benches?

He's not stupid, so I assume he knows people will feel it's fair enough to ignore it.

It's a daft practice anyway: I want my MP to vote with her conscience (and I can oust her if I don't like it), rather than vote the way she's told to (in which case she is totally pointless, and could just give her vote by proxy to the party whips)

There isn't much of a backbench pool for him to keep hiring a shadow cabinet. A couple more rounds of resignations and it's gonna be people having a second crack.

Also unrelated note I had an interview this morning for a parliamentary assistant for a labour MP and I got the job!

This all points in one overwhelming direction to me.

Labour, as it is, has no interest in winning elections. It's current power brokers value ideological purity over electoral success.

Corbyn is no leader. He is not even a politician of any calibre. He is s*** scared of losing seats to UKIP if he opposes Article 50, he himself hates the EU, yet he continues with this charade of not quite embracing Brexit and not quite opposing it.

Say what you will about Theresa May but there are no obvious splits showing in the Tories over Europe. There are in Labour, which point to a bigger issue within the party.

What Corbyn has done is acknowledge that with the Tory majority article 50 won't be stopped. I think he is doing the sensible thing in trying not to have Labour be seen as being difficult so they can push for amendments and cooperate with all parties to get the best Brexit possible for Britain, rather than the pie in the sky deal the government have convinced themselves they will get.

We should all hope to see something almost unheard of with all political parties working together regardless of how they voted.

Nor should it be. The people voted for it to be implemented. So he is doing what the people want. The only recent change has been the ruling of the judges. Now we can debate the exit in Parliament. It will happen. But there will now be approval from Parliament. That is what Brexit is about (amongst other things). Why May opposed it, I have no idea. She wanted to remain.
