Sam Allardyce was a guest with Jim White on Talksport today between 10:00am and 1:00pm, talking about Palace, England, retirement and more. The extensive interview lasted throughout the course of the three hour show, and can be found here for the next seven days:

Apologies if this is answered in the interview (I can't listen at work) but I understood he had a condition of his contract termination that meant he couldn't seek re-employment in football for 2 years. Does that include international jobs or just domestic clubs?

I had heard something like that, too. I don't know if it comes up in the interview though as I haven't heard it all myself, but he did speak about the possibility of international management so maybe he is at least free to pursue that if the opportunity comes along.

I don't know whether I'd really begrudge him managing a national team. The BBC reported he thought it'd be less hard work than managing a Premier League club. It seems like a bit less of a Pulis/Dowie/Bruce sort of thing to do if he did....

There is also an extensive article [Link] covering the reasons why Sam left.

At the time there were a couple of threads here stating that his hasty departure was due to the death of the ex wife of an ex colleague of his in the Manchester bombing and when I suggested that in my opinion that was just co-incidence I was roundly abused by many including such luminaries as Painter, Aray and boo909 who suggested that "there are some right f***ing arseholes in this place these days, need to grow up and learn a little respect."

I am pleased to see that his reasons for leaving were completely unrelated to anything that happened in Manchester the night before he resigned but I don't suppose that Painter, Aray and boo909 will apologize.

Others disagreed with me but without the abuse from the above trio

It wouldn't bother me. It would give him time and space to do the things he wanted which club football wouldn't. And it wouldn't affect our interests - it wouldn't allow him to do unto us as we did unto Hull, for example.

Perhaps England will get turned over by a team managed by Allardyce that they thought were Michael Mouse one day.

Thanks for posting that ME. I was never in any doubt that his departure had nothing whatsoever to do with the Manchester atrocity and now that's been emphatically confirmed by the man himself. It was a huge blow for us, but good luck to him for the future.

If he'd stayed I think we would have established ourselves as a decent mid-table side which, with our current resources and infrastructure, would be quite an achievement. And, with the money rolling in season after season, we would have been able to start doing something about our League One infrastructure.

Instead we're now trying to shoot for the moon, running when we'd only just mastered the art of walking and I worry that it may be too much, too soon, especially on what would appear to be a limited budget. A team that was only just starting to get the basics right again is a risky candidate to be turned into the next Chelsea. I'd love it to work and I sincerely hope it does, but I fear for our future if it doesn't.

Excellent post, very much agree. I too have had similar concerns, which I hope will be completely dispelled before too long.

Employing a new manager with more forward-thinking ideas is hardly shooting for the moon. It's progress. And necessary.

Quite, shooting for the moon is Puncheon's job. Generally from just outside the penalty area.

But sometimes also from the painted spot inside it.
