We're all guilty of this. Back in early 2000s Charlton had a great run in the top flight. The man who got them there (Alan Curbishley) built a solid squad who more than held their own. As a palace fan, watching their successes was a tough pill to swallow.

However, their fans started to get itchy feet. They wanted European football. They wanted progress. They hounded Curbishley out and within a few years their dream became a nightmare.

Quite frankly, we're in danger of doing the same. There is no such thing as mid-table mediocrity in the premier league, if you're playing in one of, if not the best, leagues in the world, just being part of the party is decent.

We all want to see the club progress but this staleness at the minute can also be pointed to our inflated expectations. I'm very worried about this season but think we're all responsible quite frankly,

Sorry Laddi but don't agree, if Eiropean football comes about through progress then we deal with it and the increased revenue it brings which, hopefully would be re-invested in new players.
Based on where we finished last season, we should have kicked on this campaign. We haven't and why?
No replacement for RLC who was a key part of our midfield and Meyer has yet to show that he is the one taking over from Cabaye.
No out and out goal scoring centre forward with too much reliance on Zaha. Desparately short of quality centre half cover.
All this adding up to a very underwhelming start, sorry but should be a Selhurst Park fortress and it is clearly not. We have lost our way and we only have ourselves to blame and by this our ambition with the players to match, one poor example being Ayew. In this division you cannot simply scrape by, money needs to be spent as Wolves showed the results of yesterday. Must shake off the "little old Palace mentality" and set the bar high.

Which is exactly what Charlton fans were saying.

Think I agree more with this than the first comment. I’m certainly not wanting Hodgson out like Charlton did with Curbishley. However, by not spending more on quality players to replace Cabaye/Cheek with have gone backwards. We are now struggling because those that came up other than Cardiff have spent big and are better than us. I see only Huddersfield and Cardiff being rightly below us. Newcastle might be equal with us as 3rd from bottom material? If you want to stay in this league you have to keep up with the others around the mid table who spend to stay in this division. Plus you need confidence in the team and organisation when playing against stronger teams/squads to pull off unexpected results. We lack this as well at this time. Hopefully that will change and we have a better than recent times transfer window in January?

keep reading we havent replaced Cabaye or RLC
one Meyer comes in to replace one of them younger for older, as for Rlc he was a loan player who done well, ,tell me were we can buy a replacement for him without paying over 30 million because thats what he his worth

Mentioned on the TV last night that we need to buy in the Jan window to survive in the PL. When have we heard that before?

Need to get the best out of the players we have who draw their big pay cheques whether they are pi$$ poor or not. They ARE currently pi$$ poor!

So for starters, how about investing in some coaching staff who really do know what they're doing and can get our players playing to their full potential?

Top post laddo totally agree.
I’ve never witnessed so much drivel from our supporters it’s quite frankly embarrassing expecting and demanding more. One day, we will get relegated and these idiots will go back to following the big 6 on their sofas week in week out and we will have 14000 die hard supporters and selhurst again, I’m starting to miss that,

Every season the primary ambition for the club is to retain it's place in the Premier League - the race to 40 points if you like. Anything else is a bonus.

I have no issue with that and nor do most Palace fans that I know.

'' mid table mediocrity '' - bring it on !

It would just be more enjoyable if that can be attained without the annual battle to achieve it. Indeed that was the club's stated ambition this season. Already that is looking beyond us.

Look at stoke and West Brom getting relegated!! Who would’ve thought they would’ve gone down, they both seemed to have got themselves established with fairly high finishes, especially stoke.Swansea had a good side for a year or two and ended up slipping through the trap door because they started looking up and stopped concentrating on staying in the division

No-one outside the big 6 is safe, in my opinion we should always be concentrating on staying up and if we click and have a decent season then it’s a bonus, then we just start again next season with the same mentality, just geting to the 40 points mark is still a good season for us, especially how things are now.

Totally agree with this. This time last year, we had three points and Stoke, Swansea and West Brom all had 8-10 points and would have been looking forward to thinking about how high they might be able to finish.

The one certainty is that there is no certainty who will be relegated right now. I am certain that Roy will be looking at staying up as a priority and anything else will be a bonus, and it is really wearing how (yet again) many posters are relegating us already.

we’ve blown our chance of getting a few points on the board before our run against the big boys, but we only had 5 points going into our home game v stoke at the end of November last season, and with Huddersfield, Newcastle and Cardiff all without a win, we ain’t down yet!!!
