That another gut feeling ? or are the Russians twisting his arm ?
His defense secretary resigns in disgust.

It could be a 'Obama level' type of mistake in that region.

I think it's a little over egging it for some to say it's leaving it to the Russians.....Errr...coffee smelling time...that's what happened years and years ago when non intervention over Syria was chosen selectively by Obama and totally by the British parliament. They opened the doors to the Russians, who committed fully, themselves.

Russia and Assad are now defacto in control in Syria....The US is only located in the north with the Kurds......By getting out they cede the Kurds to Turkey/Syria/Russia.....I think that's a betrayal.

But is IS coming back in force....I don't think so but we will see.

I don't agree with it on various levels.....However, only time will show the wisdom or folly of this move.

It's 2000 troops. Maybe the EU could step up to the plate for a change? Isn't that what they want anyway?

isnt so much of the foreign policy decided by corporate interests and investors ? just like the longstanding trade embargo with Cuba.

The effects of this decision will be seen soon enough.

It is funny that the people who are most likely to criticise Trump for bringing Troops home are the very same ones who would be criticising him if he did the opposite.

A day before Putin's annual press conference too. Nice Christmas Present.

'Washington (AP) -- President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw American troops from Syria was made hastily, without consulting his national security team or allies, and over strong objections from virtually everyone involved in the fight against the Islamic State group, according to U.S. and Turkish officials.'

Mattis knows what he's dealing with here. I don't blame him for jumping ship.
