" Man of the People " Chuka Umunna has changed his mind that the good people of Streatham are so impressed with him as their MP he would get elected no matter which party, so he has buggered off to City and Westminster. At the time of posting Mr Umunna was a Liberal Democrat
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

He's very good at changing his mind. 10/10. Maybe eventually he'll actually hold a belief. Difficult for politicians of course, I appreciate that.

Usually doesn’t work out too well in practice though; Hague, IDS, Foot, Kinnock, Clarke, Corbyn. All would’ve been much better off exhibiting a bit more flexibility.

I wonder what local party members think about having the ubiquitous Chuka chucked in on them, and the candidate who stood before and presumably made way. Not very democratic.

All would’ve been much better off exhibiting a bit more flexibility. You make a good point but there's 'flexible' flexible, and then there's Stretch Armstrong flexible. There's something noble about at least genuinely believing in 'something', whatever it is, even if it's foolhardly. Rather Robin Hoods's final arrow than someone so malleable based on circumstance that they're a pile of political mush.

That was announced a few weeks ago and he isn't the only defector to change seats as Luciana Berger has swapped constituencies but she has gone from one end of the country to the other as she has moved from Liverpool to Finchley and Golders Green where she obviously thinks that being Jewish should win her more votes

If we remain in the EU, the country will eventually be nothing more than an overpopulated province with a huge number of migrant workers governed locally by Asians under the umbrella of European central control. Glad I won't be around.

What’s wrong in choosing to stand in a constituency where you have more chance or winning? Of all the bad things politicians do, I can’t see how that’s one of them.

I saw an article about one of the defectors to the Lib Dems is going to contest the seat they hold. The local Lib Dems are not happy as their popular candidate narrowly lost to the defector in 2017 and they feel she has a good chance of winning it this time around so why go with a defector when you have one of your own with a real chance. Sorry the details are vague it's my memory but your point is well made. When a MP defects the incoming party celebrate but don't stop to think how their local branch might feel especially if they felt the MP fought a nasty campaign against them and now they're expected to welcome them with open arms. What can you do, vote for another party if it bothers you that much. Personally I would never vote for a defector it's like changing your football team you don't do it and I would never trust someone who did e.g. David Mellor. Edited by Badger11 (09 Nov 2019 12.34pm)

If you are suggesting that there is nothing wrong with moving to a seat where you stand a better chance of winning because of your religion does that mean that voters elsewhere are more likely to vote for a candidate that is the same religion or race or colour as themselves?
