Remember how that used to be a saying that would be said back before 'New Labour'.

You don't seem to hear that anymore.

Jack Straw, the home secretary, started the ball rolling getting rid of habeas corpus so that people can be tried for the same crime twice.....changing the law so that racial crimes are considered more egregious than other crimes....which still doesn't make sense.

And of course....they started the 'hate speech' ball rolling and unveiled 'offence' laws.

The rot started then.

But I never ever expected the Tory party to adopt these social policies....and indeed, May extended them.

Not so free anymore.

Will Johnson get rid of these impediments to freedom and over extensions of the state?

It's like '1984' isn't '1984' if they do it.....then's it's something else apparently.

If you think you live in a free country look at the details of the cases of Tommy Robinson, James Goddard and as recently as yesterday Amy Dalla Mura.

If you have the wrong political opinion or want to exercise your right to free speech you can end up in prison or at best a criminal conviction.

People cheering for this or making excuses (especially what are now euphemistically called "journalists" ) have not learned from history.

Just wait until "Islamaphobia" laws are passed to see how bad things can get.

We don't live in a free country, it's an illusion.

An illusion borne out of a liberal delusion.

Dangerous times.

I'm hearing Johnson's first act is to ban leftists from organizing and promoting anti Israel campaigns....dressed up in different language of course but that being the aim.

Now I don't agree with those campaigns but I object to that on a freedom of speech level.

Perhaps our hope that Johnson would fight for reversing the insanity of speech restrictions is misplaced.

what is the latest for 'free speech' at Hyde park's Speakers corner ?

did Tommy Robinson make any impact or will you get beaten up by Choudery's thugs if you try to publicly criticise FGM or to criticise homophobia ?

is it 'freedom of speech for me, but not for thee' ?

An activist gets jailed for calling Souby a 'Nazi'....when she's called others 'Nazi' herself. Yet you can thrown milkshakes at people you don't like and be encouraged by all and sundry and nothing.

Pick and choose justice that's only consistent for the myopic.

Tommy Robinson is always a wooly arguement, he kept being told not to interfere with criminal procedings and he kept doing it anyway, his poilital views are almost irrelevant.

The count dankula case in my opinion is the one to really be concerned about. That was literally the end of free speech. I don't know how the hell the prosecution managed to get the court to remove context from the defence but it was a truly revolting case from start to finish.

The lad is literally my political opposite and even I am appalled by it. I believe in free speech, I believe you are not entitled to a platform, I believe that any company has the right to take a platform away from you and I believe that if your voice is not heard you have every right to make your own platform but in my opinion the count dankula flies in the face of everything I believe in, he hurt nobody, he offended nobody, he broke no rules or laws...he didn't even harm the dog. If he broke the law, his dog should have faced serious jail time and Katie Hopkins should be facing a firing squad.

the behaviour of the State regarding the Rape Gangs was the end of the UK being a free country.

I can highly recommend his 'mad lads' series.

Better than a lot of TV productions and just the bloke sitting talking to a web cam.

I can also recommend his "mad lads" series! Yeah I hate his politics but I really do like his content. I think what happened to him was awful but it did put a very good YouTuber in the spotlight
