Some pertinent questions ahead of this game:

- Does Luka return in place of McCarthy?
- Does Roy revert back to Ayew up top and Meyer out wide to keep the game tight against SU?
- Does Ward replace Kelly against SU's marauding wing-back?
- Does van Aanholt return to lineup (having returned to full training over one week ago)?

This would be my starting lineup:

Guaita

PVA Tomkins Cahill Ward

Milivojevic McArthur Kouyate

Zaha Ayew

Tosun

I'm not sure if PvA should come straight back. Reidewald, although he didn't have a good game against Southampton, has been playing well. On the other hand I think we have missed Patrick's forays down the wing.

Mmm, I'll leave that one to Roy.

As for Luka I am inclined toward bringing him back in.

After the Southampton debacle Luka is a must - Also if Hodgson is going to play same tactics (of course he will) then I would not play Tosun and use Ayew as the main / only front man. Perhaps Meyer right of midfield as Townsend still out Alongside Kouyate, Luka, McArthur. Still not sure on McCarthy, so bench for me? Ward is a must with hopefully PVA back at left?

Ayew to play closer to tosun as I think they'll link up well but can drop back when out of possession. Riedewald deserves to continue but pushed further forwards. We really missed PVAs pace, counter attack football is nothing without pace. In possession he's good and I could see Roy use him here as he also is able to do a sound job defensively. Which will be needed with Sheffield's overlapping play. I think Luka will come back in but choosing the middle 2 out of Luka, Cheick, MacArthur and McCarthy is difficult mainly because there is no real standouts.

Guaita

Ward Cahill Tomkins PVA

Zaha MacArthur Kouyate/Luka Riedewald

Ayew
Tosun

As Sheffield attack down the flanks Roy probably won’t go 4-4-2. More likely to stick to 4-3-3 with the two wide forwards helping out with defence on the wings.

Ye I was thinking a more 4411 in possession and 451 out of possession so that we'd still have plenty of cover. Wilf protecting Ward and Riedewald protecting PVA would offer more protection IMO than recent selections of Meyer and Ayew which at times has left the fullbacks looking very vulnerable.

It will not make any difference who we pick, it will end up like the Southampton game with more then likely the same score, it's just the way they play and what they've been doing away from home all season ..we sadly won't like it at all and everyone on here will go bonkers again, expect nothing that's what I advise all of you to do.

Yes, Kelly will not be helpful at all.

If we try as you desire to attack at will and in the same fashion as Sheffield United the score will end up even worse then the loss I predict, we have players who can only operate in the way they're playing now, mainly because they're not good enough to do otherwise.
