The latest message coming from the government is that some form of social distancing will have to be maintained until a Covid 19 vaccine is available.

Suggestions as to when such a vaccine will be widely available vary. The very earliest date suggested being September, but other sources say it may not be until next year.

With this in mind it would seem unlikely that football grounds will be open to the public even for the start of the next season, so I don't think we will be getting our season ticket renewal forms any time soon.

As far as I am aware this message has not been imparted by the Government but by a scientific adviser to the Government.

Nevertheless his message might well transpire to be the actualite.Life as we used to know it might not return to a modicum of normality for several months.

Yes my mistake. However, having not taken on board some of the advice from the world of science in the early days of this pandemic in I suspect the government may be a bit more circumspect in future.

Senior figure in the Bundesliga believe there will be no football in front of crowds in 2020. This comes at the end of article about EFL clubs in financial trouble.

This seems realistic. Some suggesting full crowds won't be back until beginning of 2021/2022 season

This has also got me to thinking how playing in empty stadiums might affect the game.

It's difficult to know just how much the crowd influences players , and come to that, referees, and to what extent will it reduce home advantage?

Will it have a greater effect on some sides performances than others? Will it reduce some of the shenanigans we see, diving and feigning injury, when their is no crowd to validate what is happening?

Without the backdrop of a noisy and partisan crowd it will bring in to sharp relief exactly what is happening on the field of play.

I bet the Scousers and the Mancs are worried mind you it won't bother Arsenal or West Ham

An excellent post,Pete53.

You have posed some interesting thought-provoking questions worthy of careful consideration and I shall be giving them my attention.Jolly well done.

There is of course a great amount of advice from the world of science....a lot of it is however contradictory

Will be interesting to see when this is over who was correct, the nations in total shutdown or those like Sweden etc .

Perhaps one cannot draw certain 'Lockdown' conclusions from comparing nations due to the disparity in area, population etc etc.

Sweden is large geographically but only has a population of around 10 Million which is not that much greater than the population of London.
New Zealand had been mentioned in some posts and their population is under 5 Million.

I wonder what the maximum number of gatherings will be in the coming months. It won’t apply in the tubes and underground platforms and escalators.

I should imagine you could play out this season with certain social distancing requirements like an empty seat between each match goer.

You could also make a mask compulsory for entrance.....though that would be weird.
