1-0 MaCarthy 13mins. HT

Him, Jairo, Mitchell & Tommo all in starting line-up. Mitchell is bombing up & down left wing like a lad whos had the shackles taken off him, linking up with Perrick oh so well, Jairo bossing midfield with Jmac as a proper DM. Downside, Scott banks off with a leg injury.

FT 3-0 MaCarthy 9, Street 61, Spence 79.

A thoroughly enjoyable game. All 4 1st teamers played 90mins, even Roy was there to watch it, which was nice. Sam Woods is becoming a brill CB, commanding loud & assured, could be a small answer to our ageing squad? Mitchell was a revelation, i can only conclude he was NOT allowed to forage forward in his few 1st team appearances, shame really.

After Banks went off, Mathews replaced him & the team went to 433, so him Street & Spence were mobile, interchanging & a right handful. All in all, a great game to watch, the future is bright, the future is Red n Blue

Good summary. I think Alfie Matthews has the potential to become a very good player. Totally agree about Sam Woods, has also played a few games in midfield.

Cheers Spider,

I agree bout Matthews, also Woods, Street & the keeper Webber could/should be knocking on the 1st team door, i hope Roy was encouraged by what he saw today. I think we will see Banks on the bench before the season is out.

I was wondering whether playing the four with first team experience was to check they would be up to speed to replace several shell-shocked players from Saturday's humiliation (Jairo had less than 20 mins in that game).

Mitchell has provided good crosses in first team games this season. It's just that unlike PvA, he hasn't forgotten that his primary job is as a left back.

Woods was (IMO) MOTM in an earlier U23 game playing as a CDM. Only got to see the last 20 today as had other commitments of a time-critical nature unfortunately.

Think we will possibly in cup. Roy thinks very highly of him

Thanks for the update. I can't make up my mind whether them all playing 90 mins will make them more or less likely to be playing on boxing day or maybe getting some minutes before appearing against Leicester.

Tbh I'd like to give Mitchell the LB spot for the rest of the season especially if PVA is leaving. Yes he's not as good going forwards but PVA is a liability at the back. Plus Mitchell did have some telling contributions in goals we scored against United and Fulham.

Having just posted this I see Doombear had pretty much the same thoughts as me just a few minutes earlier
