One of our brightest prospects from this brilliant under 18's team we currently have might turn down a professional contract from us to instead go to Germany. Apparently he is worried he may not be able to break into the first team quickly under dinosaur Hodgson. I'm sick and tired of the Roy in brigade. Lets have another couple of years with snooze fest Roy ball, not bringing any youngsters through, but hey ho why not give another contract to that crock Wickham!!! who won't play for another two years!!! I tell you something, if Hodgson gets another year, i'm done with football until he retires.

Young man born outside of the UK signed for Chelsea and then us. He has no loyalty to our club and will no doubt do the best for himself and why not.

I hope he stays but if he goes it is not necessarily our fault.

Why. If he is indeed good enough and disappears because he doesn’t feel he has a chance of breaking through because of our player “policies”, then is no one to blame or should we be questioning our forward planning?

Why not read the article properly if you want to have a rant as it says quite clearly that "The youngster harbours concerns about what opportunities lie ahead at Palace with competition particularly fierce in the wing and attacking midfield positions."

Why not blame Parish as it was him that bought Eze who is probably the one blocking his path to the first team

He's a child, and worse, a child with an agent. They will all try their luck around the world to see what is best for them. Fair enough. We can't be held over a barrel by every promising youth team player to pass through the system.

Most players don't get in a first team until they are 20, if then. That said, if he is good enough then he will play (see Wan-Bissaka, Mitchell).

Roy doesn't handle contracts. If Wickham gets a new one (and it looks unlikely) then that will be the clubs decision, not the managers.

I'm all for a fair critique of Hodgsons management, but that not what you are offering in your post.

I have seen him play, looks a very exciting prospect.

Looks like an exodus of players to West Germany recently, lots of deutschemarks and EU benefits.

Good luck to him.

We have, in Mateta, a player who has done the reverse!

And even better luck to him, too.

Really like what I've seen of him so far so it'd be a real shame if he were to go. The Bundesliga seems to be a popular choice atm as there's been quite a few success stories.

Investing in the academy is great but only if the hottest talents stick around. I'm sure the club are working on creating the right path for players and hopefully this is just agent talk (how I hate them!) looking to bump up a deal.

This issue of players leaving the country is not ours alone. Noni Madueke, left Palace at the age of 12 for Spurs where he
captained the under 18s at the age of 15. He became concerned about the large squads in elite football preventing youngsters breaking through. Just like Jadon Sancho.

He signed for PSV Eindhoven three years ago and, after some injury problems has scored 9 goals with 6 assists this season. Now selected to join Eze in the England under 21 squad. Looks the real deal.

So, don't blame Roy or Parish. They have not created this situation.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

No me neither and on the whole I actually find it positive that young players want to seek other opportunities in order to increase their chances of actually playing... just gutting when it's one of ours.
