We have just announced that we have joined the heroic sounding Global Football Alliance. A strategic partnership between clubs in different countries to share insights and resources to try and gain an edge.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

From the page:

"The Global Football Alliance is a strategic partnership between clubs in 16 different countries, who are not directly in competition with each other. They will establish an international scouting and recruitment network, optimize training and sports performance, increase revenue and promote digital innovation through regular communication, meetings and conferences.

Crystal Palace will be the only English Club in the Global Football Alliance, which will ultimately consist of 25 clubs from 25 countries. It will focus on research and development, using technology and data to give member clubs a competitive advantage on and off the field."

Very positive.

I am not a bot. No, seriously, I'm not.

I'll reserve positive until we see something come out of it, but it is certainly an interesting idea.

I'm trying to work out how scouting decent players for other clubs is beneficial unless of course we consider that there is a pecking order to the 25 clubs. So, I could imagine us sending some of our younger guys there for experience but are they going to send us their best players simply because we are in the top league in Europe. Wouldn't they want to keep them themselves?

Could work in a sense where a member club gets a first option for a player meaning; if a team in the alliance accept a bid from another club outside the alliance, they notify the teams in the alliance of the bid and they accept it if the offer is matched.

Alternatively could be a way to Loan players out for more experience

Just speculation but this is how some affiliate clubs work

Could be fantastic, could be s***e. Depends on whether everyone is really into it or not.

Suspect it will fail due to self interest but hope not.

I notice one of the teams is Deportivo Independiente Medellin, Colombia. I'm very interested to know what kind of resources they're going to supply.

I'm hoping this means we get first dibs on young prospects. That they can come over here so we can asses them before buying.

*Ah I just got that joke, still my comments stand. I see this as a scouting system for us hopefully giving us access to talent similar to the top 6

Is this the footballing equivalent of the New World Order everyone's talking about?
