Is anyone using it yet? If so, is it worth the hype?

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Yup - been using it for a while. Currently on the Beta as my main OS on my desktop.

Worth the hype? Absolutely not!

It's Windows 10 with a few cosmetic changes like the centralised start menu. I've put mine back over to the left and after changing my desktop background, you couldn't tell it was any different from before.

There's a few improvements dotted about - how it handles second monitors for instance and how it handles multiple GPUs which I've been able to put to good use.

There's also one HOWLER of an omission (not a bug) that doesn't allow you to drag files on to the task bar. I use this PC for work and drag attachments on to the taskbar to bring up the email I want to drop the attachment on to, but it bars you from doing that.

A huge amount of negative feedback on that in the feedback hub and their response has basically been: Tough, we're making windows easier to use, get over it...!

If you fancy a tinker though, it won't do you any harm on the beta at least! You can also roll back to 10 within the first 10 days. I did that when I first updated to the dev channel early on.

How about the speed is there any improvement?

Not really noticeable to be honest.

Some game benchmarks are showing marginally slower, but sure it will improve!

I hated Windows 10, so I'll steer clear of 11. It all went downhill after Windows 7!

Thanks for this useful response stayloa, appreciate it. I'll try downloading and give it a whirl.

Unlike you BlueJay, I actually like W10: it feels secure, modern and easy to use on my home PC. However I do still have W7 on my media PC because I need Windows Media Center to show movies and that's one thing M'soft did away with.

I certainly agree that it must be more secure than at least Windows 7, on account that support for older versions eventually dries up. For me I looked elsewhere as I just couldn't take to the layout of Windows 10 and what almost amounted to ads for other products and so on.

For those who took to W10 I can certainly understand an eagerness to know more about and try Windows 11 .

No worries - if you have anything you want me to try out before you install I'd be happy to. I'm always up for a tinker!

Windows Media Centre was good. I use Kodi and Universal Media Server on Windows 10/11 now.

I have used Kodi, Plex and the like.. I'm thinking of buying a mac for the first time to try out a totally different OS, as I have very basic computing needs so it's not like anything I need won't be available. That said I have no idea whether or not I'd take to it!
