Not surprised the likes of Man Utd do this, but does anyone know how often the Palace team fly to games?

I don't see domestic flights as at all necessary (I don't know anyone who would take a domestic flight) and is a bit of a pisstake to fans who are told to 'be green' through greenwashing and propaganda. I would extend the criticism to some European flights that are easily accessible by high-speed rail. Time for football to be serious about sustainability?

Europe can start by ditching the new mickey-mouse conference league and drop any thought of extending the Champions League.

In our 5th tier, the National League there are fixtures like Dover or Eastleigh against the likes of Grimsby and Stockport

These clubs don't fly, there isn't the finances!

Apparently there is no appetite to regionalise at that level either!

Although I have no idea, I'm pretty certain Palace will fly to places like Newcastle/Sunderland. Probably Manchester/Liverpool if midweek.

From the training ground in Beckenham to Newcastle is probably a 6 hour trip which would wipe you out on match day. Doing that the day before then sleeping in a hotel isn't ideal prep from a PL fixture. For a 3pm ko, you can fly at about 10:30 in time for a 1pm arrival at the ground.

Man Utd flying to Leicester is ridiculous. I also agree that the Europa conference league is total dross. Might as well cut that out.

When you live in the West of Cornwall, domestic flights makes great sense from a time, comfort and cost point of view (but not green).
e.g. London is 5.5 hours by train 1 hour by plane.

If you want sustainable travel vote to re nationalise the railways. Our railways are the worst performing and most expensive in europe because the tories have privatised them. Millions of people drive up and down the countries motorways emitting tons of carbon monoxide because the trains are too expensive. Its not rocket science.

I would say it was the Beeching cuts, cutting off so many lines that makes travelling by train actually feasible for millions of people, coupled with nearly no investment in new lines since, that killed the railways. It's the infrastructure that is the issue in the UK, the rail operators are doing their best to run trains on old track - delays very often usually signalling issues. I agree though that privatising the rail operators makes no sense. The German railways are technically semi-privatised, but since no one can really make any money, 90% of the train are run by the state with a few specialist services run by private enterprises. Aviva trains in Wales (now gone I think) was actually owned by the German state. Madness. Now run by Transport for Wales.

Whilst at 5th tier level, that is true, BUT, at 6th tier level you do have NL North & NL South, so, they kinda have regionalised it.

I agree with 'Rollercoaster' that travelling by plane is cheaper & faster than going by train, especially now the govt has reduced the pax charges by 50% for domestic travel.

Most people(footy fans) don't care about carbon emissions when travelling to games, they just want to get to which ever ground quickly & cheaply, more time for a beer or 4. This is also why there has been an increase in car-sharing so, its only the driver who cant drink & they rotate who drives next game etc.

England presumably flew to San Marino for a complete farce of a match.
No, teams should not take internal flights.
And what a pain in the backside these international breaks are. The last thing we needed with the run we were on.

I did fly Arg to UK for our last FA Cup final, like so many others from around the globe and felt no guilt.
