He always came across as a nice person. It's odd but I remember him playing for Chelsea but hardly at all for Arsenal.

Another Footballer I delivered the post to when I first left school, he lived along bickley park road in Bromley, lovely house and a lovely bloke from what I remember when I had to knock, especially as I was a bit star struck

RIP

My brother in law is a Chelsea fan and used to take me to watch them for a season or two in the 70’s but I would only go when Palace was away. Hollins was such a good player and complimented the stand out players like Osgood, Hutchinson, Hudson and Cooke. He always put in a shift and was a smooth skilful midfield player. I used to stand at the shed end and never cheered a Chelsea goal but smiled if the opposition scored :-) My brother in law began to understand that I didn’t like Chelsea and it continues today. However, I doubt I’ve seen two better club forwards than Osgood and Hutchinson. Bright and Wright come to mind as I type this. Also, they had great service from Houseman who didn’t get the recognition he deserved in my opinion? RIP John Hollins and thanks for the memories

I can remember back in 1988 queuing near Mr Hollins before a palace home match. He'd just got the sack from Chelsea. He said he wanted to watch some proper football. Seemed a very nice man. R.I.P

I never had the pleasure of meeting John Hollins but have perused the reports of him being a wonderful person.

A wonderful person and wonderful player who served Chelsea,Arsenal and QPR with distinction.
My thoughts go out to all his family and friends.
RIP.

I met him a few times quite recently in the store where I work. He and his son Chris (past 'Strictly' winner) always came in together to do their shopping. He was a nice, kind, gentle bloke, but sadly he did seem to be 'older than his years'. It's not the time or place for my comments about his son though.

In the midst of all the memories of his playing days at Chelsea and Arsenal, it's often forgotten that his best-ever top-flight season was with Queens Park Rangers when they finished runners-up to Liverpool in 1975/76.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)
