"Former Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone will be charged with fraud by false representation following an investigation into overseas assets believed to be worth more than £400m.

The 91-year-old spent 40 years as the head of F1 before being removed as its chief executive officer in 2017.

The Crown Prosecution Service said the charge follows an investigation by HMRC." (BBC)

So when someone accumulates a large amount of wealth, there will always be speculation. My concern lies in the timing of the investigation, and why it has taken so long (probably around 20years) to reach this point.
Ecclestone must have upset someone, or just getting sloppy with accounting at this stage in life.

Use the default Harry Redknapp defence, "oh, I forgot about that incredibly large amount of money I'd hidden away offshore".
It worked for him

I'm sure Bernie has enough in the bank to be able to reach an agreeable settlement with HMRC and avoid any unnecessary publicity
around his business affairs.

Aged 91. Wandering around Brazil with a pistol in his underpants. And an Andy warhol wig.

Hilarious
