As per @KieranMaguire

Crystal Palace publish 21/22 accounts. 🔑 figures
Revenue UP 21% to £160m
Wages DOWN 5% to £124m
Losses DOWN 60% to £20m
Player purchases £89m
Player sales £0m

Palace have total borrowings of £82m

Net debt of £108.9m

Does this mean loans in the summer or cash in on player sales to fund recruitment?

"The Board considers the following key performance indicators to give the most relevant indicators of business performance.
While the 21/22 accounts represent a return to a ‘normal’ 12 month trading period the comparatives
reflect an 11 month financial year. This period was adjusted to take account of the extended 19/20 season
and resulting 13 month trading period in 19/20 to complete the fixtures following a delay caused by the
Covid-19 pandemic. While there is no significant impact on Turnover from the accounting period length,
as a full season’s fixtures and Premier League revenue are included in both periods, there was a negative
impact on 20/21 results from games being played largely behind closed doors to the tune of £15.5m."

FY 2021-2022 ---FY 2020-2021
Final league position 12th --- 14th
TV matches 16 --- 14
(£’000’s) ---(£’000’s)
Turnover 159,999 --- 134,383
Total player wage costs 101,034 --- 112,256
Player wage costs/turnover 63% ---84%
Operating expenses (excluding depreciation,
amortisation and impairment)
(143,293)--- (143,969)
Operating profit/(loss) before depreciation
and amortisation (EBITDA)
16,706 --- (9,586)
(Loss) before tax (24,229)--- (40,261)
Net Liabilities (33,447)---(89,368 )

Thanks for posting

I think the wages percentage of revenue falling dramatically looks very encouraging and long overdue

Approaching some kind of sustainability but to the detriment of making a lot of major signings. That said remarkable to think our squad cost is now a record £233 million

However, I think the Academy can provide some of the squad players and a few of the older players will be coming to the end of their expensive wage deals. I would like some of them to have new deals but on lower wages to reflect game time / contribution.

Optimistically we can still make one or two key signings for the starting eleven and have the academy supply the players to fill the squad gaps.

What we do in the summer will be dictated by THIS year's financial position, not last year's.

Whilst that is indeed true, the latest financial review indicates that the direction of travel for the key performance indicators is positive (SP handling of the money is under control & going in the right direction) & we know (as much as supporters can know) that there have been no wildly dramatic adverse spending movements during the last 12 months (for sure we haven't bought any £30 million players) - so its fair to consider that the current years accounts will be as good as / if not better than the review just released.

Of course there is always the possibility that SP decided to have a splurge & bought himself a new speedboat on CPFC money but that as we all know is highly unlikely.

That is true and you are right, the fans have no idea about Steve’s lavish lifestyle or the piggy bank. However, in the most recent accounts we can assume we have still had no major player sales (to date), the wage bill hasn’t halved and the has been no new investment.

In the last 3 financial years, our net debt has continued to grow (now beyond £100m), we are borrowing more money and in the last 10 years, there has been no clear strategy on how we are going to pay all this back?

I would somewhat ignorantly guess there is a hope for a major return on the sales of the likes of Guehi, Olise, Eze, maybe Doucoure etc in the future. Sounds somewhat disheartening but I think some of our 'talent' is as much an investment as it is buying to improve the team. We haven't had real success in this area in years past and TBH without bringing in much more I am not hopeful about some sort of surge of huge talent from the academy providing this either.

We are still very early days in trying this model, as some other teams have been doing it for a while now. It looks as though our books are middling in comparison with some other teams and whilst we may not see expenditure a la Everton or WHU (not that it has gone swimmingly for them) I am hoping that we will eventually transition to something more sustainable and profitable than splashing out big bucks on the likes of Sakho and Benteke once in a blue moon in an attempt to save our skin.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I presume then that the fanciful rumour that Zaha is to be offered a new contract worth a reputed £200k pw is just that, fanciful?

Zaha, Ferguson, Luka, McArthur, Tomkins, Ward, Clyne and Butland are a combined total of about 21m a year, and only a Wilf and a RB are definitely needed replacements, i would only offer Ward a extra year.
