I think Albert was the dad,lived near Queens Rd or there base was there.I think George who used to have a barrow byke selling his ice cream,was a brother,always around Thornton Heath. Never tasted ice that good ever. Bang 'ole,havent heard that phrase for a while Roy. That's what my dad (and all the other locals, as you know) called it mate. He used to say that the neighbours made him laugh because they'd all say how nice the area was because you could leave your front door unlocked. He said the reason for that was because nobody has anything worth nicking! Haha love it,there were a few loveable rogues around in those days,but they wouldn't give you any grief. Happy days,we didn't have much money but we had a laugh. Gotta be honest with you Chris, my old man was one of them loveable rogues. Didn't nick the odd chicken did he? Sometimes I'd have walked to the ground with my grandad who lived off Davidson Road and by the time we got to the ground, there'd be 6 or more of us in a group. This was about 1964 or so, when I start to remember things more clearly, I was about 8 then. Later on I used to meet my mates on the "big step" which was about half-way back on the Holmesdale, separating the upper & lower halves of it. This was about where my grandad's group used to stand years earlier. And it's roughly where I sit now. I can also remember one end-of-season game v Huddersfield, probably 1971, when it rained all day and the top of the Holmesdale was just mud and we kept sliding down. Sad bugger. Zaha, Williams, Murray, Ambrose, Scannell. A 5-man forward line who scored 3 goals in 10 minutes on 27th September 2011 at .......................

Sad bugger.

Even now before games I sometimes go and sit on my own on the old terracing at the top of the Holmesdale

Does anyone remember Denny Warren ?? real character, he was always at the front when away fans tried to storm the Holmesdale.....I remember when I had a plastercast on my wrist and Chelsea invaded the Holmesdale I knocked some guy on the head with it as he was going for Denny..broke the darn wrist again...but I got a drink from denny....That seems like a lifetime ago. thanks for the memories fellas , i went with my nephew to the southampton match , and i was telling him about the good old days ( Terracing , burger bar up the top and toilets , the peanuts ) , first started going with a couple of mates cos they opened the gates about 20 mins from the end , i remember watching a england u23 match against portugal , my favourite player was alan wittle ( dont know why though ? ) , my mother in law still lives in bangole , well ashby walk , dont even want to leave your curtains open nowadays , i grew up in in pawsons rd , i worked at rowlands a couple of years back , and had the pleasure/displeasure of seeing some of the old faces off ( made sure they got treated with the respect they deserved ) , but i have got the same feeling now as i had in 79/89 just hope its not the same conclusion ! psst , your my favourite , don't tell anyone , @mightypalace
