The second offering has a story, and has just been requested at the same time. Rumour was that this album was going to be called 7, and released on 7/7/77 where Hillage was supposed to play it at Glastonbury, which was a small free festival at the time. meanwhile on the same day I was working at L&G's head office in Kingswood, Surrey and it was my workmate's 21st Birthday on 7/7/77 so we decided to celebrate in the bar. The older lads called us 'Slade' as the 4 of us bore a striking resemblance to them (I had long hair like Dave Hill and Colin was a dead ringer for Noddy Holder, the other two vaguely resembled the others!). Our favoured drink was Holsten Pils in bottles, so we set out at 5pm to completely fill our favourite drinking table with empty bottles which we estimated to be 60. We had a chart with our names on it with 15 spaces for crosses as we each consumed a full bottle. The next day I woke up at my mum's house not knowing how I got there as I was married and had my own house. Went to work nursing a hangover and went over to the bar with my 3 chums who were also as bad as I was. The barman showed us the chart.... it was very neat to start with but at the half way stage the crosses were erratic and hard to decipher who they related to. All four of us were incapable of getting ourselves home safely so he had organised lifts home for us. A day I'll never forget!

Anyhoo staffie and I hitched down there (got a lift most of the way on two motorbikes). Hillage didn't play so we actually caught the album at the Rainbow some weeks later (backed up by Nova as I seem to recall). I digress, Glasto was stonking hot that year and some bright spark was selling scrumpy he had acquired locally, and people were passing out in the sun, we didn't need those silly bracelets that year. If you glowed in the dark you had been to Glastonbury '77. Steve Hillage "L" 01 Hurdy Gurdy Man Tops stuff again MR A, and so glad of the connection to staffie. R.I.P Legend
