Best wishes Geoff for a full and speedy recovery. I've many happy memories of your time at the Palace, non more so than the header against Forest from the edge of the box to equalize in the last minute. I remember the Forest fans taunting "Wrighty" with "You'll never beat the Walker" and us with "You're going down with the Norwich" for some reason. Then up you popped with a perfectly placed (not a touch of fluke about it!!) header. I think that put us top. It certainly kept us unbeaten.
Good luck mate, you're a true Palace hero.

I was a mascot for Palace back when Geoff and Neil Redfearn both signed. It must have been one of the first few games they both played in and as I was given the mascot tour of the dressing room to meet the players I was asked to say who was who. Being young and nervous and with them both having similar haircuts, to my everlasting embarresment I got them both muddled up. Redfearn just glared at me like I'd just punch his granny's cat, but Geoff just laughed it off and was the first to sign my Palace football (which still has pride of place in my home) you get given as a momento of the day!

A great guy and I truely mean this when I say you can beat this illness (just imagine it's a Brighton player who looks like Martin Keown and who's given you a dodgy look!). All the best Geoff!

And it WAS inspirational.Got a read of it earlier and it`s well worth checking out.A nice bit about him being fully aware that C.P.F.C.supporters were on the net showing support and how he was very appreciative about all their support.

Also said that to return to Selhurst one day and become manager would be "a dream" for him.Nice.

GT (if you're reading this)...

Fourteen years ago my dad, then 70, was diagnosed with leukaemia (not the exact type you have, but anyway...). He was given a prognosis of 3-5 years and was told that in view of his age and the reasonably slow pace of the disease, they would "manage it" rather than try to really "treat it".

He's now 84, well alive and kicking hard, a thorough curmudgeon, strong as an ox, and has had more problems with the odd winter cold than the cancer. We don't even bother to talk about the disease anymore. And he started out as am amputee, by the way so was hardly in perfect shape at the off. Admittedly this state of affairs has thoroughly buggered up my inheritance (ha ha), but in every other sense it's been magic.

Eat well, look after yourself, take control of the illness, do research, get second opinions on everything important, and keep your sense of humour. Fact: You'll beat this. And from the looks of it you've got about 50,000 Eagles fighting it with you.

Be well.

we still have no assistant manager . Is the club waiting to see what happens with Mr Thomas before appointing one? This could be a brilliant start to his managerial career. Shall we start the campaign now??

Neil Ashton from the People has asked if the HOL would put up his articles on Geoff from the weekend so you can all read it. I'll stick the other one up after lunch. A very good read.

It's harrowing when you think of what's happening to him but he's got every chance of beating it. My mate was diagnosed with cancer of the pancreas last week and we spent Sunday with him in hospital - he's in his mid thirties. Puts a lot of things into persepctive it really does!

It's interesting to see the club collecting for the treatment of Leukaemia, but what about something just for Geoff? I think his shirt should be revived and his old number retired in his honour.

There should be some sort of collection to get him a commemorative gift and then we could all see him come to SP to collect it!
