Quote Penge Eagle at 02 Jan 2011 2.37am

To SW2Eagle - you are talking utter rubbish. There was no decimated squad and Burley had ample support from the board to bolster it. His signings in general have been poor and he clearly lost the players. When should he have been sacked? When we are 15 points adrift at the bottom?

Finally, who cares if Steve Parish answers selectively? Do you not understand that what is said may be sensitive information and as a chairman some things have to remain private. You should be grateful he has taken the time to answer questions on here at all - and until 2am!

Penge - I care if he answers selectively - and so do a few other astute posters. You are welcome to your opinion, but if Mr Parish is going to come onto the forum (which I've told him I appreciate) he must be prepared to answer the questions posed. I've provided my comments in this respect, and will not go over them again.

If you bother to read the posts properly, you'll see that I also understand that some questions cannot be answered - this is not my concern, but there are certainly some that deserve an answer. I've mentioned Syd's already - somebody else asked why Danns only found out about the sacking via Twitter. A valid question and a concerning issue.

As stated, I stand by my view and hope to be proved wrong.

With regard to the squad - my point has only been answered by relying on a pedantic and slightly archaic definition of 'decimated' - rather than by answering the question properly. To clarify - our squad has been vastly reduced in key areas. We have lost Hill, Derry, Fonte, Butterfield, Moses, Ertl, Lee - and that's before the long-term injuries. There are probably more, but I'm not going to wast any more time justifying myself to you.

Edited by SW2Eagle (02 Jan 2011 3.22am)

The point about Danns was answered on the BBS. Steve Parish gave Burley the news after the game. He also told Dougie he would be in charge for Monday.

George and Dougie then went back with the team to their Hotel. Either neither of them told the team, fair enough from George's point of view as its literally not his job anymore, or the team were told but Danns wasn't with them at that point.

We don't know what happened but if George didn't feel like giving a goodbye talk then either Dougie didn't tell them, which would be a bit odd on his part as there was an official announcement about to be made, or Danns had left before the other players, which isn't a promising scenario either.

Seriously. I cannot believe that the chairman of a football club goes on chat forums and discusses the sacking of a manager and also discusses budgets given to that manager. Just seems unprofessional. Why not just get on with the job of making Crystal palace fc successful and gain respect this way, because if the next manager is not successful the fans will still turn on the owners even if you do answer there questions on a forum.

Disagree. Parish is a palace fan and i respect him for having a relationship with the fans. yes some might view it as unprofessional but he doesn't reveal everything and anything about the backroom goings-on. he's still very careful what he says

I'll never forget the day that Danny Butterfield scored that hattrick.
And when Ambrose scored that worldy at Old Trafford.

Red and Blue Army! No Matter What.

Quote SW2Eagle at 02 Jan 2011 1.00am

Right. Sorry if this goes against the grain, but I'm really disappointed with the Q&A session tonight. I think Mr Parish was VERY selective as to which questions he answered, and I firmly believe that the session was more of a publicity stunt than a genuine attempt to keep the fans up to date and provide transparency.

Syd posed some superb questions - ignored. Still there is no answer as to why it is acceptable for a board of directors to make such big decisions on one poor performance - and before anyone jumps in and talks about the season as a whole, Mr Parish himself said that the sacking would not necessarily have happened had the result/performance today have been different.

My other huge concern is that, despite having it put to him time and again that Burley was working with a decimated squad - he pretty much laughed this off and made out that it was Burley's squad. I'm sorry, but Burley was appointed at a time when he had to strengthen immediately - and did the best he could do to repair a lot of damage in a short space of time.

A few months is simply not enough time to build and shape a squad - especially with the transfer window system that is in place today. I also think we've had awful luck with injuries - another point that has been conveniently ignored.

All in all, today has brought me back down to earth with a massive bang. CPFC2010 may well turn out to be better for our club than previous owners (not hard) but they are far from perfect and far from the honest, transparent bunch that they would have us believe. I am also no longer convinced that they are the shrewd and patient owners I thought them to be.

A hugely disappointing day - only made worse by this sham of a Q and A session. Defeat, premature sacking and then this bollocks.

The only thing I am selectivly not answering is 'who will be our next manager'

other than that everything you asked has been addressed somewhere but to be clear for you.

I said that if we had won the game it would have depended on the performance as to whether George would have been sacked or not.We have lost more games than anyone in the football league, we have conceded more goals, what would a manager have to do if you were in charge to get the sack?

I have also made it clear I was not happy with the lack of cover we have brought in for key players in the summer and in the window, especially given the budget that was available in the loan window, specifically 17 grand a week just so you don't say i havent put a number on it. which for the record could have probabaly got all three players on loan I have mentioned.

Your second point is wrong, decimated means to a value of 10% of what was there. We lost two first team regular players from the end of the season that we couldn't have kept.

Also a managers job is to pick players to bring in and the ones to let go.

I agree a few months is not enough time to shape and build a squad completly but its been 6 months and I think we could expect to see some progress.

We are not the only team that gets injuries , have problems etc.

Less of a sham PR stunt now?

If you're still not happy we can have a chat at Preston

Edited by CPFC2010 (02 Jan 2011 2.09am)

This is exactly why I believe there is a large element of 'knee-jerk' reaction. We played extremeley well at Bristol City & our home performances have imporoved greatly.

I accept the decisions of the Directors & will support them 100% hopefully the new manager that comes in will have a lot more luck, less injuries & choose the right players to bring in.

Thanks for answering the questions Steve, Maybe see you in the VP lounge Monday?

Do you think George Burley by taking the Palace job was on a hiding to nothing,in much the same way Alan Smith was the last time we came out of administration? Decimated squad,no coaching staff, embargo,it would take one hell of a manager to turn it all around in six months.

Edited by JayCee (01 Jan 2011 11.07pm)

decimated squad ?? Talk me through that?

Fonte, moses, derry, hill... all 4 would walk into the side at present.

Fonte was sold in January as was Victor, after that did we lose more games than anyone in the football league. did we concede more goals than anyone in the football league?

Edited by CPFC2010 (01 Jan 2011 11.31pm)

Not sure what your point is here... I assume you are not suggesting we weren't weakened by losing these players during the financial problems?

I don't think Sacking burley is the wrong decision. However i think he did take over a side that had been decimated by the problems and it was always going to be a tricky job. He has failed beyond what most would have hoped for. However he is only about 6points off par i reckon.

The team looke worryingly lacking in sharpness. Do we have a good fitness coach?

his names Chris Short i think?

Absolutely disagree with that. What would be unprofessional would be a) slating burley and making "rant" posts ater poor performances purely to appease the fans before making the desicion to sack him or b) naming possible replacements, thus undermining Dougie and possibly providing false hope for the fans. CPFC 2010 hasn't done either of those things thus far.

The problem with Jordans reign as Chairman was that he was so hopelessly out of touch with the fans. Fair enough it turned out to be a bit of a disaster (appointing Burley), but at least Steve has the dignity to come on here and explain his desicion/answer fans questions.

Seriously???, I think he's responses are very professional and connecting with the "customers" can only been seen as a plus. Personally I think it feels that we're all in it together rather than previously seeing the orange one on sky sports spouting off some rubbish.

but it was always 1 step forward, 2 backwards. We'll play ok in one game (Bristol City) and then be awful in the next (Millwall). As soon as it looked like we were going to put a run together, we would play terribly.
Burley had to go imo.

"Before making the desicion to sack him".

and anyway, what he's said about Burley:

"He accepted the desicion with dignity"
"The desicion was 100% football related"

it's not as though he said
"George was an alcoholic and a s*** unprofessional manager", is it?
