Seriously. I cannot believe that the chairman of a football club goes on chat forums and discusses the sacking of a manager and also discusses budgets given to that manager. Just seems unprofessional. Why not just get on with the job of making Crystal palace fc successful and gain respect this way, because if the next manager is not successful the fans will still turn on the owners even if you do answer there questions on a forum.

Edited by boilerboy (02 Jan 2011 9.23am)

Absolutely disagree with that. What would be unprofessional would be a) slating burley and making "rant" posts ater poor performances purely to appease the fans before making the desicion to sack him or b) naming possible replacements, thus undermining Dougie and possibly providing false hope for the fans. CPFC 2010 hasn't done either of those things thus far.

The problem with Jordans reign as Chairman was that he was so hopelessly out of touch with the fans. Fair enough it turned out to be a bit of a disaster (appointing Burley), but at least Steve has the dignity to come on here and explain his desicion/answer fans questions.

Did you take your rose tinted glasses off before reading the posts?

"Before making the desicion to sack him".

and anyway, what he's said about Burley:

"He accepted the desicion with dignity"
"The desicion was 100% football related"

it's not as though he said
"George was an alcoholic and a s*** unprofessional manager", is it?

Comments such as "Would you have done this?" "Would you have done that?" seemed to me he was trying to get some of us around to their way of thinking, didn't work. I am not going to read through the whole post again to point out the exact points I am on about.

Have to disagree and say that I think it probably did work, at least to a point. Before he came on last night I, at least, wondered if this was a knee-jerk reaction simply to our league position and points total. His answers suggested that there was more too it than that and he had concerns particularly about Burleys ability and/or effectiveness in the transfer market and his ability to get our players to perform.

For me that makes the decision (and the fact that in his first answer he admitted he made a mistake) more understandable and acceptable.

Ok worked for some but not for me. Then there was his reply to my question about sacking Burley two days before a huge match against Preston, "What and lose that too". I'm sorry but I just found it quite disrespectful and arrogant.

but it's a fair point - when is it a good time to sack a manager? There's always going to be an upcoming game.

If it wasn't a knee jerk reaction, he should have done it before the busy Christmas period, not before IMO one of our biggest games of the season.

Leaving Dougie in charge isn't going to help either. He's been learning from Burley, has the same players so we'll probably have the same tomorrow. I am personally starting to hope I still feel crap so I don't have to go and watch it.

Ah well

Fans would expect the new man to keep us up. What happens if we still get relegated ?

In terms of timing it is a no-win situation really. However probably better on the back of a bad defeat than a narrow win (what if we had scraped a 1-0 against Preston with Burley in charge?). I agree his response to that question was a bit flippant, but overall I do think he did a pretty good job of responding to questions and giving us some honesty about his way of thinking, without saying anything too offensive.

I have been unable to read every post as on my phone but I thought I'd add my two bob's worth.

Sacking Burley for me was a mistake. He has had no real time to forge his own squad. Today was a knee jerk reaction to a very poor performance.

When CPFC2010 took over they talked about stability and building for the future. In stead of progress we are now entering yet another transfer window managerless.

To say we were only a couple of players short when George took over means either a) they have a short memory or b) think we are stupid.

It's hard to explain but I feel like the bond of trust between me as a fan and the club has been broken. Sacking someone based on one game with no back up plan smacks of someone managing as a fan not a businessman.

The vitriol from fans on various message boards towards Burley and the actions of the board have made it a very sad day for me and not one to be proud of.

Lastly we play Preston tomorrow a team in turmoil. Instead of using that to our advantage we throw ourselves into turmoil too. Bizarre at best.

the dignified don't even enter in the game

Why sack Burley two days before a very important match against Preston?

What happens if the next manager doesn't do well with such a small squad, will he be sacked as well?

Should we have waited until we lost to Preston as well!

Where does all this 'small squad' stuff come from ?

We lost 3 0 to scunthorpe, wage bill 50% of ours, we lost 3 0 to Millwall today, I dont know what theres is but its basically the side that got promoted from League one plus sone low cost or free signings. swansea dont have a bigger wage bill than us. Ok Bors is 5x's ours but .......

we lost two players who were first team regulars at the end of the season in CH and SD. Other than that the players were let go or sold by the manager.

There's his reply to me asking if the next manager would get sacked.

Ah well

I just dont get why people think this was based on "one game".

we're in the relegation zone with 22 points from 24 games. The desicion was based over the whole season, not on one game.

Better I think you read a few more of the posts first. His answers clearly show it was not a knee-jerk reaction at all but that he gave Burley as long as he felt he could but that this was the limit. We can disagree about the timing of the decision (and his judgement on Burley's abilities) but it is clear to me that this was a decision which was made on the basis of a number of weeks/months, not on one game.

Mr. Parish came onto the boards far too quickly in my opinion and he was trying to be 'one of the boys.' Now look through every answer he gave which either (i) gave no information we really did not have already and (ii) in some cases, e.g. the squad size GB inherited, were complete rubbish.

He should have waited a day, maybe two, seen the mood of the fans, perhaps issued a well prepared statement on the boards and been prepared to answer questions then.

I am sure neither he nor Martin Long run their businesses in such a manner.

I am afraid they have lost some respect from me through this ill conceived chat which was Mr. Parish's knee jerk reaction to his earlier knee jerk reaction.

Edited by james03 (02 Jan 2011 9.48am)

While coming on here may have been a knee jerk reaction I think he made it clear that the sacking wasn't and he had been thinking for a while he had made a mistake with the original appointment.

A few other posters had said they were troubled by this being a decision made on one game.

I don't think thats the case at all.

A decision is made in and instant of time - hopefully after pros and cons have been weighed up in advance - and once the decision is made it is best to put it into effect immediately.

To find the reason why yesterday was the tipping point in the timing of the decision then In this case we need to defer to those fans who went to the game yesterday and saw a completely unacceptable performance with no fight at all in front of a passionate away support.

Personally I am surprised that this happened yesterday and thought George Burley would get more time. But watching such a performance and being about to hand over a million quid (or whatever) to the person responsible to then spend when they have turned turned down opportunities in the past couple of months to strengthen our obvious weaknesses then cpfc2010 actions do seem very understandable.

The chairman needs to learn to keep his mouth shut. he is a business man, so surely he must know that you can never please everyone, know matter how much you try and explain your decisions. As directors, you will be judged on the success of this football club. Just remenber that only a few weeks ago 90% of fans were in support of Burley, but that support soon turned.

I was a Burley supporter, but after yesterday's performance I do not think there was any way back. It was not a case of millwall being Amazing, we were just so bad it was unreal. The players have to take some of the responsibility, but we just look like we have no organisation.

Parish has answered the majority of worthwhile questions in a respectful manner, he stated that burley was given a budget, he did not bring in the required players and he lost lots of games. That's the truth, there is nothing disrespectful about that, he also stated that burley was a nice man, hard working and it was hard to give him the push.

What more do people want?

Not trying to pick an argument here but to undeerstand what is going on. Parish says GB would NOT have been sacked if we had beaten Millwall, we lost so he was. To me that IS a decision based purely on one game.
