Well I sincerely hope Eddie Howe does come to Palace...

He seems a real decent, honest guy who has integrity (which is very rare in football these days)

Anyway....Fortune favours the brave! Come on Eddie please come to Palace!

Quote don't leave eddie!! at 09 Jan 2011 10.29am

hi, bournemouth supporter here.
have watched eddie howe's post match interview. he seemed very upset as he didnt know what to do. he loves bournemouth but there are some underlying problems with eddie mitchell(chairman) who apparantly stormed into the dressing room to have a go at eddie howe after one bad performance from the team. this along with the fact that mitchell keeps selling our prize assets for still undisclosed fees which seem to have disappeared and that eddie howe does not get supported in terms of transfer money could tempt him to join palace. if he does join you every supporter at bournemouth wishes him well and hope he keeps you up. the only worry is that he takes some of our best players with him.

I also had a feeling he won't come to Palace but after reading this my view on it has changed slightly, i believe he would find it easier on his concience coming to us than Charlton though.

I'm sure this has been said already .... but hey, I'm not reading every page !
Eddie Howe should make his decision by tomorrow .... in the interests of both clubs.
Personally, I would be more than happy to support our own "Up and Coming" young manager .... Give Dougie the job if we can't get Eddie Howe and let's get on with re-building ....

Something has to happen monday - we are 1/3rd through the transfer window now and a new manager needs as much time as possible to get the right targets in. Look at Burley in the summer.

I'm philosophical now - if he comes great, if he doesn't lets activate plan B asap and focus on keeping us up this year.

I can't believe there's already a small Eddie Howe backlash simmering away.

What's wrong with him taking a little bit of time (Oh my god THRRRREEEE WHOLE DAYS!) to make what is a huge decision for him?

It's not just a change of job, it's a complete upheaval of him/his family & he needs to assess whether he considers himself ready and good enough to make such a big change worthwhile. Not just from his point of view, but from our point of view too. He doesn't want to do us any diservice by making a rash decision when he's not ready.

There's nothing wrong with him having such a huge emotional connection to Bournemouth, the vast majority of his professional career (playing & managing) has been there & he's currently part of a huge love-in with both fans and the players- this is something that is all too rare in football, and how many times do we all whinge about people in football "leaving/only being in it for the money" or "having no loyalty"... and now some of you are having a dig at him for not jumping off his Bournemouth bandwagon like s*** off a shovel.

Let's hope he mulls it over and comes to a decision that is best suited for all concerned:
-We could get one of the brightest young managers in football
-Eddie gets a chance to better himself at a (slightly) bigger club
-Bournemouth get a nice lump of compensation money.

(come to Palace Eddie)

-and to those all still harping on for Coppell, what par of 'retired from football management' don't you understand?

The comments to me are of a man torn between heart and head but doesn't want to believe his head is telling him the right choice. I think he'll come and hope he doesn't look back.

How could he not look back? He sounds like someone who's being asked to kill his own mother. He's going to have to man up a little bit if he's going to make it as a manager outside of Dorset.

Haha. I do enjoy it when you're on the offensive

Well I'm just bored of it now. Some of you may know that I'm a practising counsellor, so am not at all against emotional expression. Indeed it's what my career depends on.

However all this whining about how much he loves Bournemouth and how hard it is for him (poor likkle diddums) is getting tiresome. I want him here, but not if he's going to get suicidal over it and start listening to the Smiths or something.

It's just a job for chrissake. Either take it or don't, but hurry the f*ck up. Time is running out for us.

I wouldn't have put it quite as harshly as that but I do agree with you Seth (there's a first I hear!)
I hope that CPFC2010 did say to him take a few days but we have to impliment a deadline of say Monday lunchtime or we will employ No.2 on our shortlist. We have a short time to strengthen the team with players the new guy wants.

I don't honestly think the real issue here is whether he can tear himself away from Bournemouth. Obviously he's got a massive loyalty but he also seems very ambitious and intelligent, and he must be aware that everyone has him down as the 'next big thing' as far as management is concerned. He's had other offers, and by this point is must be a question not of whether he'll leave but when, and where he'll go.

I think the bigger issue for him is assessing the level of risk involved here. If, lord forbid, he came to Palace and things didn't go so well for the remainder of the season, then he'd really have tarnished his golden record. Nobody had any expectations of him at Bournemouth and he's worked wonders, but now he's got to work out whether he thinks he can do the same thing at Palace, two leagues higher (from where Bournemouth were, obviously not where they are now), and picking things up halfway through the season, mid-transfer window.

The answer to that in my mind is that he definitely can - we've got a good bunch of players who were unlucky in my mind for a long time at the beginning of the season and have only recently started putting in really poor performances. Our position in the table doesn't reflect the team, it just reflects the way we've been playing and a lack of stability. What I'm basically saying is that he's probably spending this weekend getting to know a bit about the players we have at Palace, and working out what he'd do and where he thinks he could take us. I have him down as a guy who knows the game inside out so I think we need to give him a bit more credit. Love for Dorset hasn't got Bournemouth where they are! It's a gamble for him but I think it would pay off. He doesn't need to come to Palace now, he's got decades of management ahead of him and he's got a lot more to lose than he has to gain. Hence the difficult decision.

Morning all. There is another factor you haven't considered and it's all to do with our 'beloved' chairman.

He has given Eddie permission to talk to Palace. He has also talked to Charlton & Burnley. Another club, believed to be Ipswich are also very interested.

He will be released to the club that offers the highest compensation package if he decides to go at all and it now looks like a bidding war is starting to take place. Will that be Palace?

I expect him to go, but hope he sees this season out as we're on the verge of something with the group of players we have. If we go up, great, if we don't his stock won't have been damaged and there will be plenty of opportunities for him in the summer.

Sorry mate but you are wrong. Once AFCB have granted Palace permission to speak to Howe they have pretty much shot themselves in the foot if they wanted to raise the biggest "transfer fee" for him.
If Howe chooses us and Palace offer adequate compensation AFCB will have little choice. It's totally unprofessional to then turn around and say "Ahh, but Ipswich are offering us £3.50 more". Palace will walk away, there will be no guarantees EH will then agree to join Ipswich therefore they'll be stuck with a manager who is no longer happy at Bournemouth because the board blocked the move he wanted.
I'm not in the least bit concerned about other clubs because it is now Howe's decision not AFCBs.

The more I think about it the more I'm wondering about EH. They guy clearly loves Bournemouth to his bones and is going through severe emotional torment wondering whether to come to Palace. I think he might be having a nervous breakdown right now just thinking about possibly moving on from his beloved Cherries.

You know what? If it's that hard Eddie, don't worry about it. Stay where you are. We'll be fine. We wouldn't want to take you out of your comfort zone or anything. If you come here you'll need to be totally focussed on us, not having a lump in your throat about the club you appear to be umbilically attached to at the moment.

Just decide one way or the other and make it snappy, the transfer window is running out. Ta ever so.

Agreed.

Must admit that I'm getting a bit tired of reading and listening to how much he loves Bournemouth. He really should just stay where he is if it really is that much of a wrench for him.

At the end of the day, he'd be a lucky man to be the manager of our club. We're a good club to manage with owners and fans who would back him fully. It would be the next logical step in his managerial career. A club with ambititon to progress, decent players to manage, and a very good pool of academy players.

Yet all we are hearing is how great this guy is and how lucky we would be; "Eddie this, Eddie that...blah blah blah". Well, there's no dount he's a good, bright, up and coming manager, but he hasn't done anything yet. He has a long way to go before he can be classed in the same bracket as someone such as Steve Coppell.

If he does decide to join us, then great. He would be lucky to manage Palace. If he doesn't, then so be it. He just obviously wasn't the right man for us. The club is, after all, bigger than any individual. We'll bring in a man who give a 100% to Palace.

Rant over.

Not gonna lie Howe is better off staying with Bournemouth he's obviously got everything going for him there a good set of players even though they all get snapped up from him. If he pulled off another promotion it would be a miracle. Would he really want to leave that for palace? we are playing with no belief need a few signings in and could possibly go down at the end of the season? Gut feeling he stays with Bournemouth, and also he says he loves Bournemouth because he is being nice back to the club not doing a Mr dowie and going straight to our rivals!

Worst post and least accurate I've read on hear on so many levels

Fantastic post, exactly what I'm thinking to. It is the biggest decision of his life, he's only 33 so don't have a go at him if he takes 3 days to upheave his family, leave everyone he knows and loves, ties up loose ends and has a long hard think.

The future's bright, the future's Palace.
