Where to begin.....
1st real problems ever encountered was away at Arsenal 80/81 season. I went with an Arsenal supporting mate from work. I was only 16. Palace as usual captiulated and lost. As i was with said mate we stood on the North Bank at Highbury. Every time Arsenal scored i kept quiet and said nothing. After their third goal a few sussed i wasn't one of them. Next thing i know i cop a right hander from the biggest coloured bloke ive ever seen. Found out later it was Arsenal's main man of the time. A certain Mr Denton.

A couple of seasons later we played Manchester City at Maine Road. Now we all heard the stories of their so called crew. Arrived on the train and immediatly put on buses to the ground.Couldn't believe the coronation street effect. The game itself was a non event, Palace lost. Towards the end a few things were being thrown towards our little pen in the kippax. Coins pies you name it.
On getting outside we had to make our way out to the road through the alleyways. Bricks were flying everywhere. Fortunatley never got struck, but very scary to say the least.

The third reminiscence is again at Maine Road but this resulted in a victory for Palace. It was the 1987/88 season. The game where their keeper got sent off after rucking with Brighty and we ended up winning 3-1.
Old Bill kept us in for well over an hour after.Obviously thinking we were safe. i went to the toilet, on coming out i looked up and see piles of bricks rubble etc. coming over the walls from outside.
Still didnt spoil a great day out though.

I was at that one too, one of my all time favourite Palace away days. Rememeber the City fans during the match scaling the fences trying to get to us. Also remember just before we were led out of the ground one policeman saying to us all: 'Now, when we get out there, if I were you lads, i wouldn't say a word'.

Lots HH but one that really sticks out was a possibly Simod or somesuch game on a pissy Tuesday at Pompey.

We numbered 50 tops and after the game the police escorted all those travelling by train to the station.

By then we had dwindled to about 20 - problem was about 150 Portsmouth were waiting to board the same train. Police kept us segregated on the same platform so the local yokels knew exactly who we were.

Train comes in, we get on. No coppers get on.

As soon as we move off Pompey start...it wasnt pretty but for some bizarre reason it didnt really develop into anything full blown...thanks f*** - we were schoolkids at the time and would have been killed as I got the distinct impression they were the imfamous Pompey 657 crew.

My oustanding memory is a guy who was a dwarf who used to follow Palace whos name escape me standing in the carriage telling some hulking great yokel who had about 3 feet on him to go f*** himself and said yokel just turning tail.

I remember the "Dwarf", he used to go into the Arthur or main stand as it was called then all the time.
Never actually spoke to the fella so I don't know his name. One thing for sure though, he was always about home and away. Seen him steam in a few times, guy defiantly had some balls.

I remember being on the supporters coach as we tried to pull away from Ninian Park in the late sixties, nothing was moving when crowd of Cardiff fans charged the coach & opened the back emergency exit - we stopped them getting in but the alarm was broken & we had to trave all the way home with the alarm going off.
At Blackburn their fans pelted the coach with bricks etc - this was after they charged round to Palace end of the ground when we scored - the 3-4 police officers there did little to try to protect us.
At Birmingham we arrived at the ground early and were just hanging around waiting for the gates to open when a rather large gang of brummies appears at the corner. they started walking slowly towards us then someone shouted charge so we legged it as quickly as we could before various missiles rained down on us.

I remember that one.

Also another trip to Maine Road around the same time where en masse every Palace fan had enough of being penned and with no buses to take up back to Piccadilly in sight starting marching back to the station with bemused coppers running around like headless chickens not knowing what the f*** to do

I used to love those police land rovers they had with wire mesh windscreen and anti bomb skirts - A trip to Manchester used to be like going to 1970'd Belfast.

Yes, i was at that match at Maine Road -the 3-1 victory- and remember being kept in. I seem to remember some corregated iron gates behind us that were kept closed. On the other side of them were some very upset City fans. I remember seeing the gates bulge in as what must have been some sort of battering ram rhythmically bashed into them for at least forty minutes. Like being in a beseiged castle I suppose - it just went on and on - relentlessly - then they must have been moved on /got bored. Walk back to car was scary I'd forgotten where I'd put it as each time i parked a possee of kids asked if they could mind it for me - and I wanted to keep the wheels. Funny thing is I knew Moss Side as had been at Uni in said city some years earlier, however that day I wanted to get well away. Also the semi against Southampton at the Bridge - did some Chelsea get in our end for trouble, or am I just imagining it

Coming out of Elland Road in 1976 after beating Leeds in the cup. A sizeable mob of home fans were loitering outside with what seemed a minimal police presence. Me and my mates kept our heads down, tried to look miserable, and shuffled along in as an unassuming way as possible.

Roker Park a few weeks later was a bit scary too.

Chelsea - 5th round of Cup 1976. Evil.

I agree. The Valentine's day massacre almost 35 years ago. It was very frightening as we played Chelsea off the park and "Eagles" echoed hauntingly around Stamford Bridge. That was too much for the Chels heeds as their thugs invaded the Palace areas in large numbers but were eventually thwarted by robust policing assisted by mounted officers.

Overall though it was a fantastic day. They couldn't handle Peter Taylor who scored two goals and we were superior all over the pitch.

Blimey. I'm surprised I'm alive to tell any tales considering I went to most of the games already talked about.

An honourable mention to Charlton away Jan(?) '79 promotion season when Palace had a massive mob of about 1,000 in the corner of the home end behind the goal and only a few coppers in between them and hoardes of Charlton fans. Lots of rushing about and flailing arms for 90 mins. My mate got a bit of kicking after cos he was too daft to cover his scarf up.

The other 4-5,000 Palace fans were on the massive terrace along the touchline. Hard to believe Charlton's capacity in them days was 75,000 but that terrace could hold summat like 40,000.

Do you remember MOTD later on that evening?

They showed the fighting at the North Stand end and Jimmy Hill going..."Look at that that lad in the flat cap doing kung fu".....LOL.... I'd love to know who that bloke was, I'm sure he was one of ours and he was battering everyone.

Pre season away at brighton. Local plod moved a group of us (mostly kids) away from the seafront but wouldn't allow us up to the ground until an hour before the game so they paraded us through brighton and dumped us in a pub. Word obviously had got out because the scum turned up there threw a bike through the window followed by 2 CS gas cannisters and a few hooligans. A few bloodied noses later we were offered another march with the police to get to the ground. Don't actually remember the game though.
