To get the old blood pumping I watched the team of the 80's section from the Centenary DVD this morning.

My favourite Palace team in my now nearing 40 years of watching Palace.

Hilaire, Sansom, Nicholas and Gilbert all just amazing to watch but what always cathes my eyes is how 'lazy' Zico was, socks around his ankles he almost played at walking pace at times and so laid back and laconic - its just wonderful to watch - his goal against Notts County just a lazy swing of the leg and bang, bottom corner.

Heard lots of 'where is he nows' about him - Australia, East End coaching youngsters being two

Anyone know exactly what and where Murph is up to and how well he has weathered !!!????

I heard he was living rough somewhere - that was 3-4 years ago. Disgraceful if that's the case. Made me wonder where his old mates are when he needs them. Bit like Gascoigne.

That's so sad if it's true.
Murph was my favourite of that team. The team that I first watched as a young eaglet.

Voted best Palace bum at Wembley 1990

Didn't realise he left the professional circus only aged 28 to play for Fisher. Just found out searching Google.

my mate Kevin Dare catches up with some of Jerrys mates in the Enfield/Potters Bar area, and the last he heard about a year ago was that Jerry is alive and well.

Very sad if thats true. I did read that he was back in the east end coaching young kids. I was told by one of his former team mates that he was gay and always had a problem about coming out. Its not easy being a gay man in football. Loved him as player for us and he stayed when we were in free fall in the early 80s. Good luck to him where ever he is.

Thats the thing with Murph he has always been a bit of a mystery man since he finished playing - only a handful of posts and he's a chippie or maybe a postie maybe coaching maybe in Oz maybe in E London maybe living rough and maybe gay !!

Wherever he is I hope he is ok - what I would give to see a Murphy clone in our team, socks rolled down, strolling nonchalantly around the pitch and stroking the ball around with ease

Look at this - 13 secs in and mugging then England right back and European Cup winner Viv Anderson - Happy Days

Amazing to think he made his debut at 17 in 1977 and after that was never out of the team till he left in the summer of 85 playing 230 times and scoreing 20 goals. Palace legend.
