A Unite spokesman said: “This is another sorry attempt to slur Unite. The truth is that we pay every penny of tax that we owe because we

take our responsibilities to this nation seriously.

“The Exchequer has ruled that we do not have to pay corporation tax because of the suite of benefits we offer, including sickness and accident benefit, so relieving the state of the burden of providing those in need with financial support.

“This is what unions do. They take care of their members. It is deeply concerning that the Tory party cannot understand that and that instead it chooses to present this relationship as something warped.”

I'm glad they cleared that up about Corporation Tax.

Only thing though isn't it VAT that they are supposed to have "calculated incorrectly"

And I wouldn't trust a HMRC report on tax evasion as far as I could throw it. You can't calculate tax evasion figures, you can take a guess - but how can you quantify what you can't see!

If Apple put out a press release saying it was a political conspiracy and all their tax affairs are in order, does anyone reckon that Gusset would believe that or continue to label them ask 'cunds'?

However, reliable and trustworthy Unite are, of course, right because they say they are.

Quote Why I resigned from the telegraph

The coverage of HSBC in Britain's Daily Telegraph is a fraud on its readers. If major newspapers allow corporations to influence their content for fear of losing advertising revenue, democracy itself is in peril.

Interesting read.

I thought you weren't bothering with me any more?

As it is, unite are under an investigation. If found that they need to pay, I hope they do.
As for apple, starbucks and other 'supercorporations'...Can you see them coughing up?

BTW Matt, when are you going to make your response about academies? You promised you would only 2 weeks ago. Or perhaps actually you think I might be right but can't bring yourself to admit it.

Gusset,

Do you pay into a pension scheme?
Save in an ISA?
Dont pay tax on first £10k of income?

If yes, you're a tax avoider. Nothing illegal or immoral about it but hypocritical of you to point fingers at others who avoid tax in perfectly legitimate ways under our massively complicated tax code. Tax evasion, yes we can all complain about that. What would stop all this? A simple flat rate tax payable on all income period. 25% for everyone would probably raise billions more. You'd hate that though wouldn't you?

I can't believe that some defend those that have offshore accounts to siphon our money from us.

Yes, because if there's a flat tax individuals and companies earning millions or billions will suddenly want to be entirely honest and pay every penny owed .

These people influence laws governing taxes and 'loopholes'. They have resources to both avoid and evade tax that people on an average wage do not. They are sheltered by banks that intimidate newspapers into not publishing stories of their wrong doing. Reporters ordered to destroy all emails, reports and documents related to the HSBC investigation. God only knows why you'd defend them.

In fairness he wasn't defending "Off shore banking" he was asking YOU whether you

'Think' actually has it wrong Re Flat Tax. If properly introduced this would make paying Taxes more transparent although not foolproof.

Yes but no one pays tax on the first 10k. ISA's hardly deal with millions of pounds per individual. This isn't what the thread is about.
However the bloke from Camberley seems to think that because pensions have tax breaks to encourage more to save for the future, that makes it ok for Starbucks to claim they aren't making any money whilst diverting monies here there and everywhere so as not to pay tax. Tax which could fund hospitals to heal the sick or housing so that ex servicemen (supposedly our boys and heroes) can live somewhere other than the street.

I never think you're right because you just regurgitate whatever suits you instead of thinking about things.

Now, jog on.
