Contry to popular belief Labour did far more to eliminate socialism from main stream politics than the Conservatives. Very true they realised Maggie knew what she was doing was right for the country.

People have such short memories. I recall the power of the Shop Stewards and the so-called Fathers of the Chapel hollering "Everybody Out" at the occasion when a union member was threatened with the sack over a clear disciplinary breach. This,coupled with the Closed Shop practice in the Docks and the print made us uncompetitive. I also remember days in the early 70s when we all had 3 or 4 hours of electricity a day at work.(there was some kind of timetable when the power was available. )I was working in an office and used Camping Gaz lamps and pen and paper. No wonder we were the laughing stock of the world.
