To be honest you put a weakened side out against Newport at your peril. Justin Edinburgh has a half decent set of players there. The Albion were pretty secure until the sending off. From my seat 80-odd yards away it looked like the Newport player had fouled Caleron but come off worst but you'd have to decide for yourselves. No excuses, we were second-best after that. I'll have a better idea where we are after Saturday's match against Derby.
I also have to give credit where it's due to the Welsh fans, they were excellent -all 480 of them. It's going to be a long but enjoyable journey home

Genuine question, with no full backs as Bruno injured & Calderon probably suspended, how.do you think Saturday's going to pan out for you?

It's a bit of a worry but there is room for manoeuvre I think. Upson will be back so El-Abd could shuffle across but it's not ideal. it was good to see Bridcutt come on but his fitness may still be a bit short. I thought the new boy...Agustein looked very promising. He could be a beast lol.
I'm not too downhearted, it's not good losing to a side two levels lower obviously but they (Newport) had a lot of good things about them - they played the ball out from the back intelligently, had pace and when they got the equaliser they still played nice football and pushed men forward into the extra space. I for one will be interested to see how their season pans out. It's a shame they've lost a good player for , it would seem, the rest of the term.

Good post Shoreham seaweed, you're one of the better Bha posters on here.

I recall you lost to Swindon last year, It's not a big deal to lose to Newport in the scheme of things, it was their cup final considering they hadn't been in the competition since 1988 and the 1st ever meeting with Brighton they were obviously up for it, you had chances to put it out of Newport's reach and didn't have the fire-power!! I listened on the radio and you had quite a strong front line and team, so if you lose V derby on Sat alarm bells will be ringing amongst the Nsc faithful

I agree BBF, in that there was enough in our side to have seen County off comfortably. On another day we probably would. But enough 'another day' occasions can be worrying. The thing that stuck out for me was the fact that OG seems to have used last night to experiment a little. In particular Barnes and Buckley seemed to be playing largely in new roles. Buckley certainly wasn't playing where I like to see him play. Agustein and Forster-Caskey looked quiet initially but then grew into their roles. David Lopez was likely my biggest disappointment as he had little impact on the game apart from taking corners. I've never really rated Ankergren ( from his Leeds Utd days even) although he did little wrong last night. Thankfully Upson will be back against Derby to add some stability. I'm not too sure if all else failed that Aggustein could fill in at FB in an emergency. I think we'll be alright, last night was just one of those games and I don't want to take anything away from the Welshmen. They had a gameplan, stuck to it and in the end deserved to cross the Severn Bridge with a result. A few more results like that and biggrr clubs will be sniffing around Jolley, Washington and even the manager.

This is what my Newport County mate says about the game, he was one of the 480 who made the trip from South Wales.

"just got back, obviously delighted by the result, but absolutely gutted about Byron Anthony.
It's gonna be serious, we heard the snap in the away end. He's been our best player the last six months too, a huge blow mate.

Nice comments from that Brighton fan, and fair to be honest - seems a real nice guy - but we rested both our full-backs tonight, skipper Pipey & 10-goal left-back (best in the Conf) Andy Sandell.

We weren't full strength by any imagination - we were already missing our entire spine in Pidgeley, James, Flynn & O'Connor.

We played a 19-year old in goal tonight, a trialist at right-back, & an academy lad at left back.
We took both strikers off after an hour, to save them for Saturday - I'm amazed we won.

Lovely stadium though, first one I've ever been to that the seats have cushions. Palace in the next round would be nice!"

I told him we don't do cushions at Selhurst.

Hearing that the Brighton fans who bothered to turn up were booing as the lad was stretchered off with a broken leg.

Disgusting behaviour and they deserve all the sh** they have been getting recently with actions like this.

LOL Brighton.

I can't say definitely that the injured player was not booed off as I was on the other side of the ground but I feel it's unlikely. There was a nine-minute delay before the player was carried off. In all that time there was a load of argy-bargy between both sets of backroom staff and the Red Card wasn't shown for at least three minutes. The ref seemed to lose the plot a little there. When the card came out the West Stand Lower erupted and that's when I realised Calderon was off. Lots of finger-wagging from Edinburgh and others but the injured Newport player was still being treated. When he was eventually carried off it seemed to me that everybody applauded him to the tunnel but some were still noisily protesting the sending-off. All in all there was not much animosity between the support, if any, and the Newport fans were very respectful during the minute's applause for an Albion supporter who died in tragic circumstances last week.

In all fairness by the sounds of things there was a tiny minority of scumbags who booed him off and the vast majority applauded. Much as I love the result having seen the footage I hate to say it but it was a horrible accident that shouldn't have been a red in a million years. That all said hahaha gutted Brighton
