Agreed, Me an my mates always went on the special trains. One year there was a modern train with a disco and TV'S!!! called the league Liner. Palace got it for the away trip to Sunderland , we got a draw and the Sunderland were none to happy and it was a very hairy walk to the station. No alcohol ban and we got really rat arsed on those trains every away game. Remember Preston away. We got to the ground early about 400 Palace . Some preston started taunting us from the other end . Someone realized there was no old bill and that was id 400 Palace charged across the pitch up to their end .Suddenly Police came from everywhere and cordoned off their end with police horses etc , then herded us back in out end. Later someone said hey there was an announcement at half time about me on the tannoy. I thought it was a wind up and asked a copper. He said yes come this way. I was lead round the pitch, up the tunnel looked in the Palace dressing room getting their half time talk. Then this big cooper in a tall hat and a big stick told me "Is this your wallet?" " I said oh, yes officer" He said " Well the Preston Goalie, Ray Tunks found it on the pitch!" "WHat were you doing on the pitch ? I said , I wasn't on the pitch someone must av knicked it , but thanks for getting it back for me!" It was wrong Miles but at the same time for anyone between the ages of 11 and 25 it was bloody exciting and made the whole day come alive.

Getting out of the town that Palace had just played unscathed was always an achievement especially if we had just beaten the b@stards

luton away was always a great day out and always happened on a saturday, anyone remember when the train we were packed on at london bridge got stolen by our own fans and took us on an hours joyride around south london till it slowed at tulse hill with abouit 200 police with dogs lined up on pl;atform and the hijackers stopped train 100 meters short and jumped onto banks to make escape? then to rub salt into the wounds bricked the train even thou they were palace? good times! kermit, didnt you used to drink in the wilton? went to tm school? remember been outside the away end at top of holmesdale road when we played brighton and a mob of about 70 came up the hill singing albion,albion! as we moved towards them the old bill broke us up and ushered the albion fans in, only for everyone to realise they were the wilton!

brighton away on boxing day? me and my two pals aged about 15 sat with about four older guys with long hair on the train, then at three bridges or burgess hill a proper mob of brighton got in our carriage, i thought keep a low one to stay alive, then guy we called hair bear saw one had a we hate palace badge on and lumped him!all hell broke out and only for the slim walkway and hairbears fearlesness keeping the baying mob away we were done for!

brighton away on boxing day? me and my two pals aged about 15 sat with about four older guys with long hair on the train, then at three bridges or burgess hill a proper mob of brighton got in our carriage, i thought keep a low one to stay alive, then guy we called hair bear saw one had a we hate palace badge on and lumped him!all hell broke out and only for the slim walkway and hairbears fearlesness keeping the baying mob away we were done for!

Nearly getting done at liverpool when in the first division about 32 odd years ago and having to run into an open door of a house and hiding in front room behind a sofa , hearing a lady chatting to her kids in kitchen, door nearly came off hinges when baying mob were knocking shouting get him out! lady opened door, told them to f,,k off, then popped head into room and said dont worry love, same thing happened against man utd last week! what a star!

Right in front of my eyes a woman in her 60's got knocked to the ground she was on all fours, then this bloke just gave her a bloody great kick in the face, she went out light a light, dads were trying to protect their kids, it was raining bottles, it was absolutely terrifying. By the grace of god me and my mate did not get a scratch and lived to tell the tale we just got through the grill before someone slammed it shut, those poor sods on the other side, god help 'em.

I remember getting home only for it to be all over the news and my Dad telling me if I ever got involved in all that then he would kick my arse! ........ I'm not proud of the fact that I kicked a Nun full in the bollix that day....may God forgive me Old, Ungifted and White
