My friend who was captain of Chelsea reserves in the 70s was at the club at the same time as Bason.My friend also knows Ray Wilkins as they were at Chelsea together.My friend when to play for the first team at both Wimbledon and QPR before ending up at Wealdstone where he played with both Stuart Pearce and Vinny Jones.

Mickey Fillery? No not Fillery but I think they were at Chelsea together. My friend played hundreds of games for Chelsea reserves but never made the first team. He played 52 first team games for Wimbledon and 2 first team games for QPR. Edited by Willo (28 Nov 2013 9.33am)

Phil Driver? what era? I think my friend was at Wimbledon at the same time as Phil Driver.My friend is not a household name so might not mean anything to you. He was at Chelsea until 1977 (Dave Sexton was manager), then transferred to QPR 77-78 before moving to Wimbledon 78-81.He then transferred to Wealdstone and was in a very successful side.

Brian Bason has made the right back position his own in every ' worst ever ' Palace team I've selected/seen. Big Mal was never his boss at Palace ( although he may have been at Plymouth ?? ) , BB was brought in by Dario Gradi. If England recognition depended on enthusiasm alone, he would have been a contender, but in terms of ability I would have said he was punching above his weight if he was playing for...off the top of my head....Wealdstone.

Without doubt the WORST full back in living memory.One game in the early 80s the Arfur was virtually empty and as BB balooned another one into the stand you could hear all the bitter abuse.My mate even threw the ball at his face to which BB said he was trying as hard as he could.Im afraid I replied and called him a c###.His head sagged and he looked a broken man.....

So most of you think he had no skill factor to his game play at all,he must be a lying tw@, you wait til i see him again, the bloody bounder ! one thing that puzzles me though, is if he was as bad as you say,how the hell does someone like that play for 4 league sides ! otherwise we could have all chased the dream and played at a professional level !

From memory, Brian Bason was one of the players Dario Gradi bought in when he was appointed manager soon after Ron Noades took over. I think other players were David Price and Tommy Langley. From what I can recall, he was a very ordinary player in a poor team.
