It's Jim Cannon's debut and we haven't won a London derby in our entire four years in Division 1. Then,

Palace 2 Chelsea 1 (or was it 2-0? I can't remember, and I can't be arsed to look it up!)
l]

It was 2-0 and Cannon scored in the Holmesdale goal.
I was there !

I was there...makes me feel really old!

I was also there when we beat them at their place in the FA Cup

We are due to get one over a top side so who knows ...a surprise goal on 5mins (Bolasie) 80mins of desperate defending, Jedinak gets sent off (68mins), but we sneak a second in the 89min (Ince)

Great video. Love the booking challenge. "Hello Ossie, I'm Jim, how do you do." Were all tv anchormen wizards back then?

So then, Jim Cannon... was he really any good?

That's not meant to be as apparently inflammatory as it might seem actually. What I simply mean is, how good was he?

I only caught the last knockings of his career and while he was my first hero, and though it pains me to accept it, the hard truth is my worship was probably built more on his status and stature and moustache. It can't have been his performances as I'm sure I recall often feeling a little concerned whenever he was being called into action. Even a bit of a liability almost. But I was young, plus I wasn't judging him in his prime.

So just how good was he? Up there with the greats? - Ninja, Thorn, Sorondo, Cookie, Hopkins, Moore, Hedman, Andersen,Ismael?

As a woman, I can step aside, or step up my game...

Brian Moore says "Palace in the throws of a disparate relegation fight" oh things never change.

The ups and downs of Palace have left me older than my years

Cannon was fantastic. I recall in 79/80 season he scored what was described by one Sunday journalist as the best goal he's ever seen scored by a centre half. He broke up an attack and then ran the full length of the pitch to volley in the cross. I think it was against Ipswich, can't find footage anywhere though.

Twas against Ipswich, but wasn't the best goal of the game.

Swindle volleyed a beauty right in front of me on the Holmesdale. We won 4-1 and went top the league.

The Eagles Have Landed was the headlines in most Sunday papers.

I agree with Alan...... Jimbo was the best centre half we ever had and the most loyal player and whole hearted player and captain.

Should have been Scotland's captain but mostly over looked by a host of managers.
