All this talk about Julian not being good enough to be an international is nonsense. If you look at the Argentina roster, their keepers are utter pony if club stature and appearances this season are anything to go by.

Romero, Ustari and Andújar have all been warming the bench. Speroni has kept 10 clean sheets against Premier League opposition this season and has performed extremely well. In my opinion his catching of crosses has never been better. The only regularly playing Argentinian goalkeeper is Orión who plays in the inferior Argentinian league, keeping fewer clean sheets than Jules and is third choice for the national side.

None of these goalkeepers I've mentioned have shown particular promise and so I think Jules deserves a squad place.

I ain't got nuthin' funny to say. Sorry.

Cannot believe how much he's improved on this, and really think it needs to be highlighted just how important a trait this is.

Speroni should be playing for Argentina, his home Country. For him to be considered World Class he needs to be playing International football regularly which, he is not. The two saves he made on Saturday were phenomenal, the second defied belief.

I don't think that he has ever played for Argentina and hopefully this will change but play for England....No

They've never heard if him in Argentina! Think it was Tim Vickery who did a piece on him a few months ago. He's off their radar completely, whether due to ability or lack of exposure I'm not sure.

I cant believe that now, PL is shown all over the planet. He should play for Argentina though

I'm sure the management are aware of his existence but may not give him the credibility of some of their other candidates. For example, jules refers to videos being sent over. Not an ideal assessment, national bosses are probably going to side with a player they know better, rather than a player with limited top flight exposure.

Its threads like this that undermine the rest of us normal fans. Speroni for England do me a favour?
Are you MAD EastEndPalace or 12 years old?

Must be Mad then. All I am saying is if he is being considered I would like to see him have a go

Edited by EastEndPalace (31 Mar 2014 6.21pm)

He isn't being considered because he isn't eligible.

Yes he is, as he has lived and worked with permit in the UK for more than 7 years, under EU law he is entitled to permanent residence, he only has too take British citizenship which again he is entitled too, and he can be selected, it's to late for Speroni as it takes several months to come through.

Home nations operate differently to FIFAs rules. He cannot play for England mate.

Most impressed with Speroni's interview.
He speaks better English than many home bred players
and gives a straight answer!
Asked about playing for Argentina or England he naturally wanted to represent his home country but said it would be an insult to all his English friends to turn down any chance to play for England - but he thought it very unlikely.
Also said mustn't get carried away by the Chelsea result
as next match vital too.
Likeable, sensible bloke who seemed to impress our TalkSport Peterborough fan as well!

Totally agree. Surely it can't be because of George Wood, because he was one of the biggest liners we've ever had in goal at Selhurst. Just a coincidence, surely?

Definitely.

You'll be forever in my family's memories and it was an honor and privilege to play and lead in the red and blue
Yours sincerely

I've never been a fan of this residency thing, I know cricket and rugby milk it for all its worth, but I've always wanted the English football team to stay totally English........until now anyway, my palace biased has made me think bollox to my principles, I'd love to see Jules play for England, if his country don't want him, we'll have him, he's better than Ruddy, Forster and Foster that's for sure!! Plus he hasn't made the mistakes Joe Hart's made this season!!

Jules has also ousted Nigel Martyn as my all time best palace team keeper after now proving himself in the top flight.......and no-one has made my all time best team since the early 90's, no-ones been worthy.....so he must be good

As I understand it, Jules also has an Italian passport.

Have Italy got any decent stoppers?

I should have thought Jules was on the radar in both countries - after all, they regularly screen Premiership action.

I think everyone is getting carried away. Jules is a great shot stopper, between him and Ambrose they kept us in business in 09/10

BUT, his command of his area whilst improving is still poor and his distribution is bloody awful. It's a shame as in an era where the word legend is bandied about all to easily, I thik he is a real Palace legend. He just isn't world class

Wash your mouth out JOE HART WOULD NOT HAVE SAVED THAT YESTERDAY AND HE REGURLY HAS HOWLERS. JULES CLAIMS CROSSES REGURLY NOW AND COMMANDS HIS DEFENSE. THE DIFFERENCE UNDER PULIS IS STARTING TO CONVINCE ME HE IS BETTER THEN MARTYN.

As I said, he's improved but he ain't world class.

There's a reason he's still at Palace..............

Who said you have to be world class to be an international goalkeeper?

What does world class even mean? How many keepers would you call it?
