Here we go again. So Palace need to stay up to justify a new stadium? Na, if that were the case then Palace wouldn't have built anything yet. Like the roads, build them and see the traffic come after. It always does and so it will again. It's all aquestion of faith. Those who say we should wait to build have no faith in our club. Hideous!

OK, I'll type slowly so you can keep up.

Where did I say that we need to stay up to justify a new stadium?

If we stay up, more money will be readily available, which means that should the owners wish to, they can accelerate any plans that they had to rebuild. Also as others have said there will be a larger demand for tickets. Remember, we haven't actually sold out that many games this season so why anyone thinks we will suddenly start selling 35k tickets is beyond me.

Back inthe Championship we will average 15k if we are lucky. Without sustained success a lot of the "new" fans will disappear and / or become more casual in their support.

I want the ground to be developed (withouit losing it's character), it would be nice to get out of the AW the same day the match finished! How it is done needs to be sustainable, we don't have moneybag owners

No Ydraig gogch(?) I don't mean you in my rant. Just those who think the cart must come before the horse. Glad you agree this is not the way forward. Driving back from the north on Saturday I listened to the match on 909 live and heard the bloke say, on several occasions, 'this old ramshackle stadium'. That gets me, as I was one of those who turned up before Palace's first match in the top section as a student, to help finish building the Arthur. Since then I have witnessed my 'home' ground develop further but is now in need of a giant leap. This can only come about with faith in the future of Palace, As I've written before, thank god for the imagination and faith of our previous boards.

we need to start looking at redeveloping asap, obviously not to 35k straight away but was just saying there are games this season with a relaxed ticket policy we could of defiantly sold them numbers.

I would happily watch us in league 1 with 10k every week in our current stadium as it is but that's not whats best for the club.

A redeveloped Selhurst getting crowds of 18k in the championship is still better than what we have now getting 18k in the championship. If we were to go back down say in 2 years at least next time we came up we would already have the infrastructure in place to capitalize on larger attendances. And i do think a redeveloped Selhurst would bring our average attendance up in the championship anyway.

We could of easily got 35k at home this season with selling tickets on the door, okay alot would be day trippers and a few away fans in the home end but its what you get at a lot of other grounds in the premier league, and it would be worth it for the extra income the club would get

Yep

Nope - unless the local planning authority say yep. It's all well and good saying we should expand to accommodate 35k + but the LPA have to approve it first. When we last applied to rebuild the ground with c42k seats, the LPA agreed a plan but limited to an increased capacity of only 600. As I said when I last posted on this, there will have to have been a complete sea change from the 1990s and the club may also have to finance a lot of public realm changes to deal with increased numbers, parking, road use, public transport etc as a condition for any significant increase in capacity. This takes time and a long term financial commitment which we are only likely to meet if we stay up.

I agree we should build regardless of what division we are in as it is essential to have the best facilities and infrastructure. But the money has to be there to achieve it otherwise rushing in means either settling for something cheap, crap and scaled down to what you originally wanted (IE settling for second best) or worse, you end up in horrendous debt.
I think we will have to be in the top division and collecting the Sky spondoolies for at least three years before a spade hits the dirt. Although that shouldn't stop the owners moving forward with architects drawings, planning meetings, outline planning permission, etc so us fans can at least see what they've got in mind and the excitement levels move up to pant wetting levels!

Pretty sure SP has two plans for the stadium both short term and long. One for a Palace in the Championship and one for a Premiership Palace.

The ground still needs work regardless of what league its just being in the Prem means more work can be done quicker due to funds, expansions will be bigger. Facilities better etc due to the extra demand.

A tricky situation for the board definitely. Also they dont want any construction reducing the stadium size on a temporary basis whilst we are still in the Prem.

I know for a fact if we stay up 1 mil is getting put in undersoil heating this summer.

Well that's a first as Palace have repeatedly applied for planning permission to install under soil heating over the years and has always been denied. Noades applied at least twice as did Jordan. I do not know what the grounds for refusal were but I do know the club have wanted to install it at Selhurst Park for years and not been allowed.
It's not even that expensive to install. Certainly not the £1m you mention. Most of the labour costs will be already covered by our own groundstaff who are already on the pay role

I for one am delighted that the Crystal Palace Park plans were dropped. The last thing I'd want is for us to move to an arena type stadium. It would take all the character that Selhurst Park offers away. Redeveloping Selhurst stand by stand with different style stands, starting with the Croydon Advertiser is the way to go.

Probably the usual reason - didn't offer the Croydon council planning committee members a big enough back hander.

Brighton and their owners are stating they are a big club with a big future. It may cost money, but they believe. What about us? Stand up if you believe in Palace. Stay sitting if you want a small club forever. Thank god A. J. Wait had the foresight and subsequent chairman have followed his lead.

f***ing fat lot of good its doing them. I agree about the need to build but we must do so pragmatically...

Is a requirement for Premiership football which we need to comply with and will mean the pitch will be raised.
