Leicestershire Eagle very kindly posted a note of what SP said in his recent Holmesdale Radio interview. This is what he said about the ground:

Stadium Stuff. Crystal Palace Park is pretty dead in the water, unless someone on the council shows some enthusiasm. Best thing is to develop Selhurst Park. Would like 35k capacity. Whitehorse and Main Stand most likely to achieve this. Will not be the Arthur, because of how many it holds. They have a good dialogue with Sainburys going, so it's looking like the plan is to add a second tier to the Whitehorse. No work can be done close season. Build on what we have, fans over the pitch etc, no concrete/steel bowl; be a bit different.

- Crystal Palace Park is a possibility in10/15/20 years. By then, her new Crystal Palace MAY be there, so a lot of the things like traffic, infrastructure etc would be already in place. Internally, they talk that this will be the next owners problem.

It's makes sense what SP says.

Given that, as he highlights in the interview, the AW holds as many as the Holmesdale, to close that stand for a season is a massive loss of revenue.

Come to an agreement with Sainbury's, and stick another tier on top of the roof of next door. Obviously not that simple, but you'd think if knocked it all down, made the bottom tier deeper, and another tier on top, it would look pretty smart. SP mentions though, that the boxes there are a good source of income, so something needs to be done about that.

The Main Stand is the real opportunity though. Better facilities, better corporate facilities etc etc, and given the space behind it, it could be a great addition to the place. A lot of work though...

I wonder though; we all complained at the the thought of a stadium named after a betting company....

How would you feel though, if Selhurst Park was renamed Sainbury's Park, and they helped us in redeveloping the stadium? These things have to be payed somehow, and bringing in something like that could help massively.

How about this as a stadium design? What could be more appropriate for a club called Crystal Palace? Could also be used for concerts. This is in New Zealand and is the worlds only covered stadium with natural turf. The pitch is irrigated by a water system that channels water from the roof. The capacity is over 30,000 even without the corners being used. As well as being a football stadium it would be a major venue in its own right.

Nice design! Would also keep the noise in nicely, making the home support even louder and more intimidating.

However, all that glass and steel would come at a cost, nevermind that water system, and then with all that, maintenance.

AND it would feel a bit... indoorsy...

I could live with it if they weighed in with enough cash. The Sainsbury's Stadium alliterates better and we would all still all call it Selhurst Park anyway.

And Cameron Jerome would likely bring the whole thing crashing down with one of his attempts on goal :-)

Seems a bit unnecessary if you ask me, and it would require knocking everything down and building in one go.

Plus, despite in theory holding in the noise, the new stadium seems (from TV) to lack the atmosphere of the old Carisbrook and certainly isn't as intimidating as the 'House of Pain' was.

Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time.

I for one am delighted that the Crystal Palace Park plans were dropped. The last thing I'd want is for us to move to an arena type stadium. It would take all the character that Selhurst Park offers away. Redeveloping Selhurst stand by stand with different style stands, starting with the Croydon Advertiser is the way to go.

The CPP plan was to tear down the old sports arena and build Palace a new stadium. I really liked that plan, but it was scuppered when West Ham were gifted the Olympic Stadium so that their fans are set back far enough from the pitch so as not to be in danger of injury from balls ricocheting off Andy Carroll. (People here are wary of 18k rattling around a 35k capacity Selhurst - just imagine how dead WH games will be with 18k rattling around in a 50k stadium and a running track).

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football.

It would be fantastic if they could connect the Holmesdale to the Main Stand and to the Sainsbury's, to have one contiguous roof around those stands a la St. James' Park (or whatever the eff it's called these days).

As for renaming, I hate the idea. But money talks...

They just re-clad main stand. I would like to see the Arthur rebuilt getting rid of restricted view. They could put corporate boxes in there and then work on Sainsburies. Pulis mention work on ground saying area is good for 40,000. Could be sign of something.

Can we not just build 3 stands the same as the Holmesdale? But with the Main and Arthur instead of the gallery bit have Exec boxes. Then fill in the corners.

But we have to start with the main, as doing the Arthur first would reduce the capacity to much.
