If Sunderland stay up by only a point or two there'll be law suits a plenty. Not heard the last of this me thinks

the dignified don't even enter in the game

As soon as I saw it I thought the premier league would bottle it and just issue a fine. The president for football league clubs and lower divisions is a points deduction and it should be the same.

Having said that, I'd prefer to beat them on merit rather than a technicallity.

Doesn't it just sum up the Premier League? The only thing that matters in the PL is money, so the only penalty they issue is financial.

Talk about double standards.

2007 AFC Wimbledon were deducted 18pts for exactly the same reason when they fielded Jermaine Darlington without international clearance.

We were deducted the point gained for fielding Rui Fonte against Sheff U in 2009 when his registration ran out the day before the game.

Also did they not knock MK Dons out of the League Cup with him in the side, they surely must have grounds for complaint.

There is a slight difference in the Sunderland case, in that they had international clearance when he joined the club, they sent him on loan to a German, and then failed to realise they needed international clearance again when he returned, even though he was in the same contract period.

Whilst I'd like them to be deducted points, I don't think it really is the same as other cases. Especially as it was Sunderland who first alerted to the Premiership to the situation.

During that period they gained one point and no advantage.

Happened to us a few years back - 1 pt deduction for fielding Rui Fonte against Sheff U in I think was a meaningless last game of the season.

That was one game and a point deducted, would love the FA to deduct them pts.

Beat me to it. The point made no difference whatsoever.

Rui Fonte's loan period had expired.

It is a slight difference and I'm amazed that they were not deducted a point. That both sides have hushed it up for so long also raises questions.

The fact that he wasn't any good and probably cost them more points is irrelevant. I don't for one moment think that the PL favour Sunderland over any other club but they (the PL) are more interested in not making a fuss and the money they can make out of it.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

What made him ineligible? He has played in 7 league games since the start of February. 25 man squad is decided at the end of January isn't it?

Potentially, but to be honest I think it'll more likely be a hefty fine.

How many points did they get with him I'm the side?

Hasn't this happened before with Tevez and Westham? Can't remember the outcome

No this wasn't for an illegible player. More a question of how he was signed if I remember. But he was sort of signed.

The precedent is points deduction. But if they lose ,say, 3 points but are 4 points clear then they are OK with that.
