On the odd occasion, the strength of argument on HoL or the views of one poster can make you think again. On this subject there was a post - which I think was from Kermit8 - which pointed out that the difference between Hillsborough and the other tragedies (and Bradford is very, very close to my heart), was that the Hillsborough families are still seeking justice.

I think you can reasonably say that the real responsibility is still unclear, but keeping it in the public domain seems fair and reasonable, until that issue is resolved.

Exactly. The other tragedies did not have the senior police trying to cover-up what they had and hadn't done and then compounding that with ensuing falsifications and misrepresentation. It is their fault that this hasn't been put to bed yet. Not Liverpool FC nor their families. They denied the victims justice to suit their own ends but are still being pursued vigorously, no matter how long it takes, to make sure that they don't eventually manage to get away with it.

The senior coppers made their own beds.

Wonder what a relative of one of the many killed at the Heysel Stadium would make of your post? Did they get justice? Was anyone made accountable?. Will observe a minute silence out of respect to the Liverpool fans that died that day and how horrific it all was but blaming people and seeking justice will not bring them back.

Some Liverpool fans were jailed for Heysel and their supporters officially blamed hence the banning of the club and all English clubs from European competition. So 'yes' accountability was laid at Anfields doorstep.

Not sure what your post is getting at really. This is not about bringing them back but keeping it on the agenda to enable eventually some kind of finality and closure, isn't it? Something the police and authorities did their very best to stop back in the 90's with the lies and misrepresentation.

I'm bored of it all tbh but don't blame the club nor the families for it going on so long. They were given little choice but to fight back.

Good article but do Liverpool hold regular minutes silence for Heysel?

Some might say that the Scousers will never be happy with the outcome of any inquiry whereas Bradford, Juventus and Manure have come to terms with their losses and have moved on.

We've done this debate to death now Dave tbh so I won't comment any further except to say RIP the 96 and all other victims at football grounds (including Ibrox).

This really annoys me. The whole article where it tries to blame the stadium, the organisers, Juventus supporters for throwing missiles as if it was not really there fault that some of there supports killed 39 people. The only people that committed these murders were the people that we're attacking other fans.

Every other club has played in dangerous stadiums, in badly organised conditions against hostile crowds but none have committed mass murder.

And the article seems to try and make out Hillsborough to be worse because it was Liverpool fans that died and it was more of them. One death is far too many. Cheaply labeling one as a saddest moment and one as the lowest moment belittles both tragedies.

The police at Hillsborough were dealing with a group of supporters who had recently committed these murders. If they hadn't I'd be certain that the game would have probably been policed differently and the 96 deaths might not have happened. At the time Liverpool supporters where an incredibly high risk group and moving them around safely is far easier said than done.

However, the police were wrong to cover up there mistakes, but it wasn't their fault alone and they certainly didn't have the intention of hurting anyone, unlike Liverpool fans at Heysel.

Nail. Head.

And do we really want to pick hole in anything that remembers football fans that went to a game and never came back ?

Fair play to Liverpool for remembering Heysel. Always thought the were a decent club with strong values ever since they clapped our boys off the pitch after we won there 2-1 in 1992.

You'll be forever in my family's memories and it was an honor and privilege to play and lead in the red and blue
Yours sincerely

I totally agree.

Didn't you know, the scousers are never guilty!

The real responsibility is not clear? Where have you been for the past 20 odd years? It's now known the actions of the police brought about this tragedy and no amount of hand-wringing sentimentality from anyone, that tries to cover the real facts, will be enough to essuage their guilt. Now's the time not for honourable bon-ami, but in fact the chance to use these deaths to point this out. The relations of the victims will expect nothing less, and they are the ones who count.
